Plex only outputting stereo since 8/13/19 PS4 update

2.0.1 really works on beatstream .
It’s ok , but after exit plex, ps4 standing for some time, it has never been this way.

DTS bitstream worked right away in my scenario.

So was this some kind of Sony forced update or what is up here? I just don’t get why we can’t roll back to the previous update if you’re able to push a new one that fixes it but in a goofy way? Did Sony change something about how audio is being handled?

Sont didnt change a thing. Plex rolled out an update on the 14th August and broke their own app. Sony’s last update was 16th July. If that wasnt evident enough, the last Netflix and Amazon Video updates were the 3rd April and 26th of April.

Sony havent changed a thing, and there is no need for Plex to “Work” with Sony to resolve this issue, because as I said, they havent changed a damn thing. Claiming they are is just customer service spin.

Plex worked fine up until the 14th of August then they released 2.0 and royal screwed the app, then the other day they released 2.01 which some how, god only knows, they butched too. Only their saving grace was that everything just so happens to work if WE the consumer all change our PS4’s over to DTS Bitstream.

There is NOWAY in hell that was by design, because if it was there would have been a “oh btw can all PS4 users switch to DTS bitsteam to resolve the issue” patch note SURELY??. No it was sheer bloody luck.

The apps still butched, it crashes twice as much as it ever did and only supporting DTS bitstream I think might even mean Plex isnt conforming to Sony standards. But eh who knows.

One day it might actually be fixed properly, because im pretty confident we’re never getting a roll back. You @ApexAftermath are about the 10th person to ask and nothings happend so far regarding a rollback and we’re on what Day 26 of this issue.

Yeah my post was more or less a diplomatic attempt to get them to fess up. Worth a try lol!

So DTS streaming is working for me now. Everything is DTS though; it doesn’t switch when the source is AC3. Are we still waiting on a complete fix?

Yes we are. I will necro this post forever if I have too. As I have said previously when this app works. It’s brillaint. To break it like this, then half ass a fix in by sheer luck. No sorry we dont want that. We all want the app we had prior to August 14th. It may not have been perfect but it was damn good and worked brillaintly 99% of the time.

If that means fixing 2.01 or a rollback so bet it. But i think we’d all just like it working as it once was.

How goes the ‘actual fix’ just a reminder, we’re still here.

Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock…

Day 28 incase anyones curious.

It would be pretty cool if in the search for how to fix this, they finally figure out how to get Plex on PS4 to actually send real DTS for movies that have it instead of transcoding to AC3.

Christ I about got my ears blown out today even set to DTS bitstream when I played a file with TRUEHD 7.1.

THANKS PLEX. Can we please roll this back to before the changes? We already know this had nothing to do with a Sony forced update. Why can’t you roll it back? Please if you don’t know how to fix it then can you get some more senior people looking at it?

Day 31…

I’d ask if there was any news, but we both know the answer to that.

Hello, at least for me the 2.0.1. fixed the issue and my functions are back to where the were before the update:

  • PS4 Audio on Bitstream Dolby or DTS has the same outcome of AC3 5.1 pass-thru, but DTS getting transcoded to AAC 5.1
  • PS4 Audio on PCM but my receiver would say the signal is PCM instead of Dolby or DTS, of course
  • Plex-App:
    • AC3 enabled
    • EAC3 disabled - HD Audio, usually 7.1 will just stutter

At least surround sound is working again!

I have no idea what my settings are, but every thing works like is used to prior to the update that botched it.

Try playing something with a TrueHD 7.1 track. These always worked before for me and just got transcoded down to 5.1, but now something obnoxious happens. It’s still broken.

I’ll have to take your word for it, I don’t think I have anything encoded like that. I’m not using my media center for 4K or 7.1, so maybe that’s why it works.

  • TrueHD and DTSHD don’t transcode correctly. They play loud screeching noises and are currently unusable.

  • AC3 doesn’t direct play; gets transcoded to DTS.

@dafuzzbudd hit the nail on the head. It still doesnt work right. To the untrained ear sure its passable. But the formats it supposedly supports arent being transcoded/output correctly.

As I’ve said oh may be a thousand times over the last 35 days, if Plex cant figure out whats wrong, cant find whats wrong, or simply cant decern whats wrong.

Roll back to the pre August 14th build, so those of us who do know what the hell we’re hearing can enjoy how the formats are supposed to be. That way you can spend as long as you want messing around with your app.

As cliche as this saying is, and for the umpteenth time - This really ISNT rocket science.

I feel like this is being ignored because Plex must have data that tells them majority of Plex users don’t have nice setups and listen to everything on crappy 20 dollar earbuds on their phone. So they just break stuff like this without a care. This is why Plex Media Player on PC is eventually going to get nuked. Leaving me with one less reliable client that I always know will do surround audio correctly.

Can we not just get a rollback until this is fixed properly please ?

They just pushed a new update to PS4 Plex today that STILL doesn’t fix it. I think it is absolutely insane to push a new update, without this fix on the list. This is such a major issue that pushing any updates that aren’t addressing it seems like a gigantic slap in the face.

I feel for you guys, I get plex might not give a sh*t about my complaints (I dont pay). But to ignore the complaints of paying customers for this long is absolutely insane. My advice, cancel your Pass. You’re clearly not paying for anything worthwhile at this point.
