@NostalgiaBytes - Dya know if I was you, I would have found myself a cheap PC and installed Plex Media Player on it by now. For many reasons beyond this bug!

It’s a much better experience and depending on your AV setup, will Direct Play practically any media!

For some people, it’s not a matter of getting a cheap PC, it’s more like several. The people posting in the forums might be willing, but Plex is oriented towards multiple user situations, some of whom may not want yet another box under their TV and another remote to run just one app.

I can’t complain too much, I ran into a rare crash bug with the server and the dev team has been all over it to track it down. It’s unfortunate that console development isn’t that straight forward.

The irony of all this is that I actually do have a PC, I have several. A gaming pc, various file servers, nas boxes, a PC for video/photo editing. A couple of laptops too, for various tasks. One of my PC’s is actually a PLEX server, dedicated solely to that role. Unfortunately in one of the rooms we need to stream to the PS4, its our only option.

This has now become more of a matter of principle for me now. Plex broke their app on the PS4 and they’ve gone out their way to make up bullshit like they’ve gotta work with Sony to resolve the issue. It’s rubbish.

I’d have more respect for them if they just came out and said “you know what, we’re really not that invested in the console app, we’d simply rather put our efforts elsewhere.” Buuuut they dont, instead they carted out a few excuses that simply didnt add up and since then given up completely on addressing this issue.

Well it takes me all of a few seconds to keep this post necro’d for all of eternity. So, I’ll drop in from time to time. Who knows maybe one day they might actually fix the transcoding for Dolby Digital/AC3 on the PS4. I wont hold my breath.

Keep bumping this thread NostalgiaBytes, many of us like you in the same position with apps that rarely ever work as intended. The reason we are on these forums requesting fixes is because we know how good Plex can be.

Dolby TrueHD is still broken and plays loud static. Dolby AC3 still does not direct play.

LOL… I highly doubt they submitted a fix months ago and its still waiting to be reviewed by Sony. I feel like my Netflix app has updated three times already.

It is obvious now that they really don’t care. If it took this long to fix an major issue with the applications I manage, I would be fired. I understand that this isn’t critical (because other audio formats work), but this is definitely a major issue and a huge eye opener to the quality of your QA department. Why would you not test all audio formats before making a final release?

Well said. Update 118…

I have a thought… Why don’t you guys start PM’ing some of the Plex bods? Maybe even Elan himself? Draw some more attention to it…
