Been a plex user for years - run my server (latest update) from pc and use the pc and ios app (latest update) to play and cast through chromecast. I have a large library of music so i thought i’d try out the plex pass to see what it could do (particularly the music functions - lyrics and casting to sonos). This has led to multiple frustrations and ruining of my music library.
To start with the streaming to sonos is extremely inconsistent and often doesn’t work (similar to the sonos ios app and plex, which is also very buggy)
Lyrics don’t work on either my pc nor the iphone app. I looked on the forums/plex support and found the recommended fix was to update my music library as I may have been running a library from an old version of the server… I updated and then refreshed metadata
Now multiple things have been stripped from my library - including; ‘bio’, ‘similar artists’ ‘genre’ and various other metadata. What i thought was meant to be an update turned out to be a downgrade with multiple problems (and still no lyrics)
I’ve always appreciated Plex and wouldn’t grizzle as it’s a largely free product, but now that I’ve spent some more money, I’m very pissed off. You should not be charging for something that is this riddled with bugs and ■■■■■■■■
I doubt there are any solutions to this as the problems seem to be endemic to the pass and there is no way for me to reverse the destruction of my library, but if anyone has any ideas pls let me know.
ICYA Yes, I’ve restarted my server and my files are organised properly (and in any case why would it strip ‘bio’ genre etc from my library?
I’m not certain about your first issue, but the latter two could be caused by an problem which was just corrected in a very recent server release:
(Metadata) Extended music metadata and lyrics would be removed after a refresh (#12585)
To take advantage of the fix, you need to update to the latest Plex Pass/Beta release and refresh metadata for your music library afterward.
If this doesn’t correct the extra metadata and lyric issues, please say which scanner and agent you’ve configured for your library; Plex Music/Plex Music should result in both extra metadata and lyrics being available.
Thanks for that. Finally got the lyrics working on the pc and the metadata is being updated now when I refresh individual artists. Trying for the whole lot now, which will take a while to check. I’ll check the ios app later and will report back.
iOS app now includes lyrics where metadata has been updated. The Sonos issue (point 1 above) persists. Takes forever to load, stops playing randomly, sometimes won’t play a track, plays the wrong track and many other annoyances. Maybe the next iOS app update will fix. I think it’s a known issue.
