Hosed…great word…thanx for the help…
Sorry, the comment was not very helpful, but the sentiment is true. If you’re behind a relayed connection and you can’t effect changes on you the router, your options are limited.
You need to be able to set up port forwarding.
PS you are the Superstar that fixed my server name and folder naming and i’ve not had 1 problem since…forever in your debt!!
Its not my problem actually…everything works great,my buddy has access to everything…it’s just his picture quality he describes as 720pish..BUT he is on a 4K TV…and i took no offense by the hosed..i got a kick out of it…appreciate you reaching out..
Just to be clear, you are the server admin, right? And you’ve invited your buddy to access your libraries…
this might be one of the cases where he is living in an apartment complex which provides the internet and there is a building router that he can’t access.
Oh, I"m almost sure that’s the case. Or something similar.
not the case sorry…i live in a house with a roomate who shares wifi and the buddy i gave plex access lives in a house with lightening fast internet..my internet is also 1 gig
yes the server is on my Imac
Does your room-mate have control of router or the ability to change settings? Setting up a port-forwarding rule shouldn’t impact his internet usage.
So you do potentially have access to the router?
Yes i have access by share account and i can’t disrupt my roomates access
so how do i set up port fowarding…on plex it points to my home ip?
I haven’t done this myself, but there are several knowledgeable people that know how.
Here’s the Plex guide
I think the only disruption may be a router reboot once the rule is added but that is probably router specific. Do you know or can find the router manufacturer and model #? Once we know that, the experts can investigate exactly what you would need to configure.
can i call Spectrum and have them walk me through it? AND is this the picture quality that will be increased if i port forward? My buddy has NO access issues only Picture quality
You can certainly try and call them. With a port forwarding rule, your friend should have a direct connection to your server and avoid the bandwidth restrictions that the Plex relays is imposing. So yes, picture should improve.
thanx again..the rest is on me/// i’ll call my provider..Thanx You!!
