Plex Pass - Multiple Accounts

I use Plex on an Apple TV4 which travels with me to my summer home in Canada and AZ in the winter. Due to programming restrictions in each country, I have set up two free Plex accounts - one for each country. I am planning on supporting Plex by purchasing a Plex Pass and would like to know if it can be used on both accounts or moved between them in some way.

I don’t understand the motivation for this. Why did you do it?
A Plex account as such has no ties to any nationality or jurisdiction or whatever.

From the Plex FAQ

Each Plex Media Server attempts to identify in which country or world region it is located. Sometimes the automated region identification fails and users need to manually set the region to ensure the best user experience.
Due to restrictions from content providers, some Plex channels will not work outside of specific regions. As such, those channels are hidden from view in the Channel Directory unless the region setting identifies the user as being located within the allowed region.

Yes, but this is still a server setting. It doesn’t change if you switch to a different user. IMHO there is no need for different user accounts just for this.
More importantly: You just spoke of an ATV4. That is a client. Where is your server located? Does it travel with you too?

Thanks for trying to help me understandthis - I am new to Plex.

While in the US I set Plex up to catalogue and distribute media located in multiple folders on my iMac out to the ATV4. When we returned to Canada (our internet connection in the US is placed on seasonal hold) logging in to Plex displayed the library with all my media and channels from the US with no way to access them, so I set up a second account and linked it to my computer here with a new library. Short of storing all my media externally using a cloud service, it seemed like an easy solution. What should I have done?

So the iMac travels with you? Or does it stay behind?

If it travels with you, changing user account shouldn’t be necessary.
I’d rather say diagnosing and debugging the internet connection of Plex would be the right thing. Due to the different internet connection, there may be some adjustments necessary. Either in the router or within Settings - Server - Remote Access

The ATV relies on a successfully ‘signed in’ Plex server. It has no other means to find the server, even when on the same local network.

Can you elaborate a bit on the “no way to access”?

I have two iMacs - one in the US and one in Canada with an ATV that I take back and forth with me. When I leave AZ the internet and iMac are turned off, so when I use Plex on my Canadian iMac I cannot connect to the AZ machine and it’s Plex media library. So I set up a second account and synced it the the media on my Canadian iMac. That way I maintain two separate libraries - one for each iMac. The only solution I can think of is to store my media on a portable drive or remotely if I wish to use one Plex account which I prefer not to do. Hope this makes some sense and thanks again for your assistance.

Yes, I guess I understand now.
I think you should be able to do it this way:
Use the same plex account for signing in both servers and the ATV.
But give them different ‘friendly names’ (Settings - Server - General) so you can tell by their names which is which.

All you need to do is now to switch to the right Plex server on your ATV. It should have a kind of ‘server selector’.
(I don’t own an ATV myself, so I cannot tell you how the server selector looks like.)

I will try that. Thank you.

Hello

I also have the same sort of problem I travel to 2 locations and set up 2 plex servers (that don’t travel with me) that are very similar. One of the plex servers (the second one) s in a very rural area with very little internet service.

When I set up the systems I made a mistake and ended up with 2 different plex accounts on 2 different emails. I did not realize that I could (should have) had 1 plex account foe both servers.

Now the server (with the wrong account) is full and the meta data is downloaded to the server (rural area one - it would take months and months to rebuild that information again there) and I can’t rebuild the metadata again so deleting plex and reinstalling is not an option.

I want to purchase a plex pass but before I so that I need to get both servers on one plex account.

When I log into my secondary server (rural one) with my preferred account name it can not find the server and I have tried all the debuging tips to get it to acknowledge the plex that is there. but I cant get it to … It works fine when I sign in with the secondary (wrong) plex account.

Is there a setting (possibly hidden) that is in the server that needs to be changed or deleted so the that server can be reclaimed this time properly with my proper plex account? How can I put the second server on the original account?

Thank You

While physically near the server which is still signed in to the wrong account:

An alternative is to sign in Plex web into the same account as the server account and then go to settings / server and sign it out

Then sign out Plex web and sign in with the other account

Then claim the server

The server is now switched to the right account
