Plex Pass Trailers Getting Fewer and Further Between

Server Version#: 1.18.2.2058
Player Version#: N/A

I have noticed that Plex is finding fewer and fewer trailers as time goes on. When I first got my Plex Pass over a year ago, Plex would find trailers for almost every movie, even the more obscure ones. Lately it isn’t even finding them for much more main stream movies, such as “Ready or Not” and “Mary”. On top of that, half the trailers that Plex does find, are horrid quality. Trailers are one of the main reasons I got my Plex Pass in the first place, and now I feel like it’s almost useless (the trailer feature, not Plex Pass in general). Before someone says “why not just add the trailers manually”, I will say because I shouldn’t have to. I paid for a feature that Plex advertises, and I feel like it should work better than it does, especially considering it’s really easy to find high quality trailers for just about every movie on the web. I also wouldn’t be that upset with the feature if Plex would quit spending time on things that a majority of people don’t even use such as Tidal, Web Shows, and the like.

Hi Aaron.
I was actually just about to post the same complaint. Trailers was also one of the main reasons I got my lifetime plex pass. I’ve been percivering with it for a few months, but now I’ve got hardly any trailers.

I hope I’m not hijacking your thread, but the following may be relevent to us both, and hopefully help resolve the issue.

I have two libraries - HD Movies & 4k Movies. Weirdly, the 4k movies is continuing to collect trailers for newly added movies, even though the library & agent settings are identical to the HD movies library and agent settings. I can’t figure out why the same isn’t happening to the HD movies. For this reason, I can be sure it’s a server behaviour and not a client behaviour.

Checklist:

  • Find trailers and extras automatically (Plex Pass required) - TICKED in both
  • Scanner = Plex Movie Scanner (for both)
  • Agent = Plex Movie
  • Plex Movie Agent configured with all available options ticked

Eaxmple; I have Ad Astra in HD and 4K. There is a trailer for the one in the 4k library, but not the one in the HD library.

I’m really hoping someone can help us with this.

Not a solution, but a workaround is to use Media Companion to download the trailers into the movie folders. It adds the ‘-trailer’ to the filename so Plex recognizes it.

Another example of horrible trailer scraping: Hustlers. This movie should absolutely have a trailer for a paid scraping service. This is getting ridiculous. Plex, please look at alternatives to your extras streaming service, or at least break out trailers into a separate service. I don’t care about the other extras. I just want to watch a trailer to help me decide whether I want to watch a certain movie or move on to another one.

Thank you for the suggestion.
Using a third party app like Media Companion is a bit difficult for me. All of my media is hosted and encrypted on the cloud and I don’t have direct access to the media folder from my home PC, without going through the PLEX interface. I designed it this way for security and resilience.

To be able to run something like MC, I’d have to use Rclone to mount the encrypted folders. This appears to be a bit difficult to configure (did try once) - and I’m aggrieved to try again, to implement a functioning trailer function which is advertised as one of the benefits of a plex pass.
