Hello, I have a Plex server that I created for my dad. He has well over 500 DVDs that we spent months ripping and encoding so that he can watch them, most often while he is everything at the gym.
He has shared his library with 5 of us, his children. Because I set it up for him, I believe I am technically the server owner.
One thing he really wants to be able to do is download content to his devices, mostly his smaller iPad for when he flies or travels in the car.
We are confused as to which of our accounts needs Plex Pass. If we buy it with my account, will he be able to accomplish this? Like, can I then make a new set of users that are under mine? The only reason we have Plex accounts is for this server only (except for me, I have a small one of my own).
Or would he buy the Plex Pass under his user (his user doesn’t own the server)?
Thanks for your help. He’s ready to but a lifetime Plex Pass, we’re just unsure how it works with different users.
Plex pass for the account, into which the server is signed.
If it is your account, you will automatically get its benefits on your server as well.
No need to change anything about the sharee accounts. They can use Sync either way. (Sync needs to be granted by the server owner to each sharee account individually).
If you buy the bigger Tidal subscription through Plex, you will also get all Plex Pass features unlocked on your account. https://www.plex.tv/music/
However, you can’t share Tidal. It is strictly a one-person, one-playback license.
If Tidal is sensing 2 parallel streaming attempts from your account, it will abort one of them.
