Plex Playback Choppy When In Fullscreen

I have run a plex server for several years and I have used a PS4 for my playback device in the media room. Recently I built a HTPC for the media room with the plan on using the HTPC as the playback device.

The issue I have is when I watch plex with the Windows 10 app, Chrome, or Edge the playback is extremely choppy and is not watchable. When not in full screen it is smooth as butter. I dont know what to do or how to fix it.

Any assistance anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I would try the Plex Media player for windows. It’s an “official” app. Chrome and Edge are just web browsers and the Windows 10 app is pretty old, and I believe, no longer developed. If it’s a home theatre system, the web browsers just don’t have the ability to work that way, and weren’t designed to.

I personally don’t use the Plex Media Player (PMP) because it requires a remote control, Unfortunately (gasp) my computer does not have one. So I have to use a combination of the mouse and/or keyboard. If I did have a remote, it would be utilized, because it plays virtually everything I’ve thrown at it… Just not convenient to have a keyboard as the huge remote control on the coffee table.

You should be able to find it it in the downloads section

for the windows version.

It worked like a champ. Thank you for your help. I love internet forums.

As for your remote, maybe I can be some help. I found a pretty small wireless keyboard with a touch pad that works pretty good. I keep it under the sofa so it is out of the way. Here is what I found and it is working as a decent “remote”. Here is the link:

Thanks again and have a good night.

Glad it’s working.

As to the keyboard, I already have a Roku, Android TV box, and PS4 connected to the TV and A/V receiver… My Plex server is also connected there, and I have a keyboard and mouse I pull out when I need to do work on the server. Theoretically, the Logitech remote I bought is supposed to control all of those things, but I’ve never found the ambition or time to program it properly. I’m afraid one more item on the coffee table or tucked away in a drawer would push me over the limit.
