Plex playback quality

I understand if no feedback is available. I’ve been burning my movies and TV series and adding them to Plex. I have a Sony projector in my media room with a 110" screen. The projector is only a year and a half old. When I play a MKV movie via Plex via Roku or Apple TV device to my Sony 65+ TV or Samsung 55" TV in the main bedroom, the video quality plays back at Original Quality. But in the media room, it won’t do that. I moves it to Convert to 480p. If I try to choose “Play Original Quality” the screen goes dark for several seconds and then comes back but it’s still set to 480p. Choosing Convert automatically doesn’t get the highest quality as happens on Family/Main bedroom TVs. This is the same in the media room whether I play back with Plex on Roku or Apple TV.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can do? My A/V guy has been alerted and he’s asking Araknis. My internet speed is excellent. And if it were that, then it should affect the TVs one would think.

Could it be projector settings? Cables in the media room (which was built two years ago with excellent quality cords and so forth) should be okay. Settings in Roku or Apple devices? I’ve looked and don’t see anything. Settings in Plex? Same thing, nothing I can see. I thought maybe Transcoder quality might be something to adjust be I haven’t yet.

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

Is auto adjust quality disabled in app on your Roku in Media room?
What are remote and home/local quality set to in settings?

Auto adjust quality in app on my Roku is set to OFF. Auto-adjust display refresh rate. Am I in the right place? That is set to OFF.

I don’t understand your second question. I tried to google and find where these settings might be but I haven’t been successful. Can you give me more input as to where these are located? Do you mean in Roku device and using Plex app within Roku or do you mean the Plex app where my settings are where General/Remote Access/Agents/Library etc. are?

Sorry. Please let me know.

In the Plex app on your Roku open settings and look under Video settings

On Roku Ultra 4800X the only thing under settings for video that I’m seeing is Display Type. It is set to Automatic (4K HDR10).

the settings of the Plex app not the settings of the Roku itself.

My apologies. In Roku, the Plex app settings are:
Local quality - Original
Remote quality - 12 Mbps 4K (I changed to Original just to test but can put back)
Direct Play - Auto
Allow Direct Stream - is checked
Burn subtitles - Automatic
Maximum H.264 Level - 4.1 (recommended)
Allow MPEG2 - is unchecked

Side note, I see the only audio choice is “Allow DTS-HD” and that is unchecked. Should it be checked?

I have a Sony 4K projector, 110" screen and 7.1 with Dolby Atmos ceiling speakers for 9.1 and two subwoofers.

Did I get you the right video settings? It was done by going into Plex app, then scrolling down to the bottom on the left side to settings.
