Plex on Roku play provides limited video quality

Server Version#: 1.26.0.5715
Player Version#: 7.0 build 8
Roku OS: 11.0.0 build 4180-C2
Roku Model: 4800X - Roku Ultra

I am listing Roku model and OS version to help Plex support team to pin-point a potential issue if any. Here is the problem:

When trying to change playback quality settings on Roku, let’s say the original quality is set to 1.3Mbps 720p (Original), I am only presented with following 3 choices:

  1. 1.3 Mbps 720p (Original)
  2. 720 Kbps (what does it translate to? I tried this and quality is extremely degraded)
  3. 320 Kbps (same as in point #2)

However, on the web version of Plex play I see following:

  1. Play Original Quality 1.3 Mbps 720p HD
  2. Convert Automatically
  3. Convert to 720p HD (High) 4 Mbps
  4. Convert to 720p HD (Medium) 3 Mbps
  5. Convert to 720p HD 2 Mbps
  6. Convert to 480p 1.5 Mbps
  7. Convert to 328p 0.7 Mbps
  8. Convert to 240p 0.3 Mbps
  9. Convert to 160p 0.2 Mbps

As you can see the range difference between the two players is astounding. So Roku #2 quality would be roughly web play #7 and Roku #3 would be the equivalent of web play #8 Convert to 240p 0.3 Mbps

Can someone from Plex, please, explain why such a big discrepancy? Will Plex for Roku EVER match the video quality selection presented in the web player?

It’s not an oversight, or discrepancy even.

It’s what we call a feature. Not a bug.

Funny, but seriously?

Consistency isn’t Plex’s strong suit. Seriously.

Edit:

Rather, consistently inconsistent.
