Plex Player Android TV Buffering several times a minute in 4K for direct streaming on network

Recently started experiencing an annoying frequent buffering of Plex Player on our new Sony TV running Android TV when playing 4K content.

If playing on Plex Player on the Mac Mini, the playback is flawless, no buffering issues what so eber.

The topology is as follows (see diagram Plex Setup Diagram)

  • 1.5G Bell fiber internet gateway
  • Connected Ethernet port of Bell gateway to 2.5G 5 port switch via Cat 5E ethernet cable.
  • Switch connected to M2 Mac Mini, running Plex Server, via Cat 6 cable - Speed Test yields 900MBPs.
  • Drobo 5D RAID (storing media content) connected via Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. Black magic speed test yields 400 MBPs.
  • TV connected via CAT 6 and Gigabebit to USB 3.0 adapter, speed test yields 900 MBPs (connecting ethernet cable to TV ethernet port yields only around 100 MBPs).

Any idea what could be causing this issue or how to diagnose?

I am noticing something similar. I am able to play the files with no issues access them as a network share via Kodi. Instant play and instant scrubbing. But with Plex now it keeps pausing after a few minutes doesn’t utilize the network consistently. I ran a direct speed test to the server and got over 300 Mbps. I am going to see if the plex database on my server is messed up and causing issues. I had one movie work a few weeks ago and tested it yesterday and was having this issue even though I replaced the file with a lower bit rate version. These are full UHDs in my case.
