Plex Player App for Tesla

Tesla will release the new V10 Software version soon. It will have now Netflix and Youtube on board. So that the user can stream in the park position. I hope to see a plex app too soon.

Why are you creating a new thread if there is already an existing one?

Because i don’t found a topic for a build in Plex app on the Tesla Software Version 10

I am crossing fingers on version 10 unlocking Plex for the Chromium browser! I don’t think an app is required for it to work.

I can verify that it works in the web browser over both LTE and WiFi. When in park of course. As soon as you put it in Drive the video pauses and can’t be restarted. Testing for a friend of course, I would never try to watch Plex while driving.

Note: Web (Plex) audio out competes with any other playing audio. So when I first tried it was playing plex video and audio along with NPR. You can’t pause live radio so there wasn’t a way to change that. What you can do is switch to a streaming channel and pause the song, and then you can happily watch plex using the Web app.

Getting Tesla to OK a Plex app to sit beside Hulu and Netflix doesn’t seem like too much to ask… it’s on every app store out there and even Apple doesn’t have a problem with it…

Just got the v10 update in my model 3 and would love if Plex was in there alongside Netflix and Hulu. Would prefer Plex to the others.

Hi fellas. Go in the browser and pre-login to plex.tv. Then go to entertainment (while in park) and select the YouTube shortcut. Once it fullscreens, you can search for a YouTube video that has a https://plex.tv link in the video description. Add the video to your YouTube favorites and click the link each time. Then you have full screen Plex!

Note that to play videos, you will need to add them to your queue using the three dots menu, then select play next on the same menu while looking at the video’s description. It won’t play directly by pressing play from the tile view.

I’m super keen to use Plex as my audio player in my Model X as I have ALL my personal music on a plex server on a fast Internet connection. Obviously can do this from my phone but a Native Plex audio player on Tesla’s O/S would be awesome

TeslaTheater.com includes a link to plex.tv that uses a youtube redirect. Just favorite it in the browser.
I’d still prefer it if Plex got themselves into the official Tesla theater.

Just an update.
The domain had an issue so they have moved to

I used until now a shortcut https://YouTube.com/redirect/q=https://app.plex.tv to access plex in fullscreen. But this makes it even quicker.

Thanks for the hint with the fullscreen website.

As I dont get any feedback in my thread, allow me to state another question here again.
Tesla uses a dutch provider (KPN) for all european cars premium connectivity. So whenever I access Plex Web, all settings are in dutch and due to no option in Teslas browser for dropdown menus I cannot change settings.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Would love to see a native Tesla Plex Media player app now that there are a few million of them on the road.

Pretty please…

Finally got my Model 3. Nice big screen, LTE, built in compat with Slacker.

But I want my Plex music library!!

Clearly, this would need to be a joint effort with the Tesla firmware team, but it seems like such a nice feature for Plex peeps… don’t have to Sync to phone+bluetooth, just connect to your media server from your car over the LTE and stream away.

Is this on a “to be considered” list anywhere in the Plex developer catacombs? Give me some hope.

Just picked up my Model 3 a few weeks ago! Integration would be sweet but I think we can file it under pipe dream at best, lol. I’d settle for Bluetooth working correctly from the Plex app so I see correct meta info and reliably use car controls for play/pause/skip.

I just got mine too! Would love to have a Plex app for it. The iOS app works well and the BT pairs way more quickly than any other car I’ve seen, I love it. Metadata and controls also work for me, are you seeing issues?

The Android Plex app leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to Bluetooth. I only see the track info and album art for the first track played when I connect and it never changes as the next songs play. It only updates if I manually skip to the next track. Play/pause/skip controls tend to have a 5+ second delay or don’t respond at all. This behavior was the same in my previous car.

edit: Should add that I have a fully updated Pixel 2.

I’ll let the Android team know, that sounds pretty bad!

Thanks! Looks like I’m not alone in the Android forum so it is appreciated by many. Sorry for hijacking the Tesla thread a bit there. Hope both of you are enjoying your Model 3 as much as I am! I’ve never driven anything like it before. Every drive is so much fun.

Here’s hoping some developers at Tesla are also Plex fans!

I’m on Android too, which is maybe why it feels a little clunkier. I haven’t tried functions like searching yet from the car. I was more interested in not having to think about pre-syncing my tunes -nor- eat up my phone’s data plan, but rather capitalize on that LTE directly as I zip around.

And YES f0lken86, I’m -loving- the car!
