Hi, I’ve purchased the Plex player on my laptop via the $4.99 activation. My understanding was that this should not expire. However, a few months later, the app no longer believes itself to be activated. I have not reformatted or reinstalled, or changed my device in any way.
As a side note, I haven’t been satisfied with the app even when it was working due to issues streaming it to Discord, and it has also been failing to play music in any way, and is now stuck in fullscreen mode on my main screen, and won’t allow itself to be moved to my docked screen, but in the spirit of focusing on one thing at a time, the activation issue is clearly the most important problem at the moment.
For which app exactly did you do an activation?
I know there’s activations for the Android and iOS clients – I wasn’t aware there’s such activations for any desktop clients. Unless you accidentally installed the (long discontinued) metro client from the Windows app store (former Windows phone client).
The native apps – e.g. “Plex for Windows”, “Plex Media Player” as well as the new “Plex HTPC” are available for free. Those apps have no activation… from all I can see/tell, the “Windows App Store” version is no longer available in the Windows App Store (all you will find there is the Xbox version).
Ok, great. I think “There’s a new free version that works better” is the best answer I could have asked for, so thanks! This version has solved my streaming issue, my music issue, and also is able to inject subtitles without transcoding, which is what I was looking for in the first place. I think I am good to go, thanks for the help!
