Plex player LG WebOS4: video shrinks to upper-left corner

THis hs just starte for me with the new upgrade. It is highly annoying. There’s no reason for it and I can’t ind any settings to change to force full screen

My UJ7700 (webOS 3.8.0) is running into the same exact issue. I am running the latest player app (3.8.0) and server version for my DS918+ NAS (1.16.1488-deeb86e7f). Everything is running wired.

No trouble with 1080p, but 4K causes the exact same kind of blank screen with a heavily corrupted image in the top left. Changing the audio to AC3 5.1 brought the picture back, but there’s constant buffering.

I’m fairly certain the issue is with the player/app and not the server or bandwidth. Enabling DLNA and playing through LG’s pre-loaded Photo’s & Video app results in flawless playback.

I’ve had to revert to using XPlay a lot lately because of this issue. Not that I like XPlay… but at least it plays 4K more reliably for me.

Avoid HD-MA 7.1 Audio, as you stated will work via DLNA. I believe that Plex are working on a Beta with new transcode codecs.

I think that we may be saturating the network interface(s) of the TV.

I don’t think so. As stated before, 4K streaming works fine via DLNA so it’s very likely not bandwidth related.

I have the same issue with the Endgame movie.
LG C9 OLED
Plex for LG 4.5.1
webOS 4.6.0

Is Plex working on a fix?

This happens with me as well… does anyone know if this is fixed in the PMS beta released yesterday?

It’s obviously not fixed on anything yet, I tried it yesterday on Infinity Wars and same behavior.

Yeah, still not fixed. Seems to be isolated to TrueHD audio only.

Yah, generally 7.1 Channel 10 Bit

This longstanding issue, how awful the Xbox1X Plex app is at handling high bitrate 4K and the issue with the Android app ignoring the “prefer insecure connections” are the 3 things that irk me about Plex the most…

Almost 5 months later and this is still an issue with this client. I would think this bug would have been addressed at some point during that period.

Try explaining to your wife or 6 year old that you have to choose the secondary audio track when you play 4K files with DTS_HD audio tracks.

Come on team, lets see if we can get this fixed before 2020 hits. I have to think this is low hanging fruit in your bug list.

Yeah, I’ve had the same problem here for ages and also found the only option is to switch to lower quality audio streams - has anyone from Plex seen this? is there any indication of the source of the problem and/or a potential resolution to this?

This issue still exists :frowning: Very frustrating!

Is there any news of a fix coming?

This happens to me too, but only when the audio track is a TrueHD track. The video shrinks to the upper-left corner and shows garbled nonsense (like a corrupt video). TrueHD tracks can also cause the video to not shrink, but show wrong blocks of colors in different scenes. Switching to a non-TrueHD track solves these problems but it isn’t a fix, just a workaround. I want to be able to listen to the actual TrueHD track, not switch to the compressed AC3 one.

This doesn’t happen to me on all TrueHD tracks. Some work well and don’t exhibit any problems throughout the whole movie. This problem happens on just about every one of my Marvel movies. Not sure why, maybe Thanos is trying to get his revenge.

I have two LG 4K TVs. One is a 42" (model 6910PUA) and the other is a 65" (model E9PUA). Both are running Plex for LG 4.13.1 and my server is running 1.18.2.2058. When I stream any of the 4K Marvel movies (with the exception of Guardians of the Galaxy) to my 65" I see the problem that everyone has reported here. When I stream to my 42" it doesn’t happen. The only difference between the two are the LG software versions and WebOS version. The 42" is running software version 04.70.20 and WebOS version 4.7.0-50706. The 65" is running software version 04.70.12 and WebOS version 4.7.0-50007. Can someone from Plex comment whether there is a minimum software/WebOS requirement for Plex for LG when streaming 4K video?

On your Marvel Titles, hover over the bottom right of their posters. You will see a Vertical ⋮ (Vertical Ellipsis) , scroll down to Info and see if all titles are 4K HD-MA 7.1 channel audio. Many discussion members have reported this issue.
I have a 2018 model OLED and i do not see this issue but a bleeding from top of the screen.

HD-MA 5.1channel audio does not display this problem. Also if you use DLNA for these titles it will play without issue, yes a workaround. Like us all with this issue we will have to wait for a Fix, unless someone wishes to ping a employee for a answer on the subject.

Oddly enough I had my first issue with a DTS HDMA track the other night. I don’t know if this was a fluke or not, but for me it’s no longer an issue with just TrueHD tracks anymore.

Frustrated with this issue I decided to switch to Emby media server as there is a WebOS Emby media player app. Oddly enough, this issue happens on Emby as well with the high res audio formats. So it would seem it’s the TV that’s creating the problem and not necessarily the server or playback software.

Some thoughts:

Is this an issue with Cinavia?

Is this an issue with how we have our audio output setup on our TVs? I’m using the optical output to feed an integrated amp.

How do we proceed from here? Is there a way to roll back to an older version of WebOS?
