Plex Player - Local TV & DVR item is gone - Can't get OTA channels on my ROKU devices

I had no issues with the rollout with the Shield and Fire TV clients so this my be a Roku client issue.

There is no issue on Roku if you’re on the latest version of PMS. I have 3 Live TV servers and 15+ Roku clients throughout the family and nobody had any issues.

Glad you were able to get your OTA TV listing back. Here’s a question

You mentioned that after the PMS update, you had a bigger buffering problem. Would this problem be seen when playing back a recorded OTA program? In other words, would the lag be recorded as part of the program on disk, so that you’d experience it when you played back the recording?

Has anybody tried playing back a recording made after the PMS update? Have they experienced any issues?

Thanks for the questions
I do not have any buffering problems when playing back OTA programs that have completely finished the recording process (& compiled). I do have buffering problems when watching a live OTA program AND/OR when watching an OTA program that is in the process of being recorded (via the “watch from the beginning” option).

PMS 1.25.6.5577

This is so frustrating! I wonder if Plex is worth the time I have to keep spending to keep it working. The main reason I have used Plex for many years is for DVR. I have not found any interesting channels on the Live TV on Plex. This latest change does not help me. But if they just added the extra channels and it worked it would be no big deal. I rarely watched the Live OTA via Plex anyway. But I would like to use the Live DVR to set shows to record. I guess it is OK if I have to go back to using the computer or my phone to set a recording that’s OK. But I tried the new combined TV list and like some others I did not see my OTA channels. If I go to Browse, then it will show what is currently on, then the back button will show the combined list. Deleting/reinstalling the app did not help, but then I had to go back to the Plex video settings (direct stream & local quality) to fix the Roku buffering problems. It is crazy that these settings are not the default for the Plex app on Roku. My Plex server is on My Cloud so I think it gets it updates automatically. I don’t see how to update it.

I even went through the trouble to delete and re-add my HD HomeRun DVR. But that did not help either.

Plex on Roku 6.9 build 18

I can only see one of my two Plex servers on Live TV, which works fine on my LG TV and on My Apple TV
, but NOT on Roku

Are we going to see a Roku fix soon???

*** UPDATE *** Local OTA channels are back!!!
I have been following everyone’s response and what I got out of all the posts is two things

  1. Update PMS to version 1.25.6.5577
  2. Log out of your ROKU device and log back in

Today I did item #1 - updated my PMS on my server PC.
#2 - I DID NOT sign out on the ROKU (I didn’t do a “sign out” on my ROKU, meaning that that I would have to relink to my Plex account on the ROKU). AFTER installing the new PMS version on my media PC, I merely exited the Plex app on the ROKU and went back to the ROKU home screen. Then I relaunched Plex.
After that, I went to Live TV in Plex, then tabbed over to my PMS server name. Plex then displayed all the local channels provided by my digital antenna!!! I tried a couple of the channels to prove to myself they worked. I got video as expected. So, it looks good, and looks like you’re just a PMS update away from having your channels back.

I must also say that downloading the Plex update to my PC was pretty painless. 10-15 minutes later I’m back in business. Great going Plex team!!!

There you have it everyone. I hope for those of you still having issues, it goes as easy for you as it did for me.

Update to the latest PMS version (I updated to version 1.25.6.5577). Once done, go to your ROKU and exit the Plex app, then relaunch it. Your OTA channels/guide should be shown when you click on the LiveTV library, and then click on your PMS server name. That’s what worked for me. You can see my latest response marked UPDATE for more details. I do have to say I haven’t tried recording anything yet from my digital antenna channels. I’ll have to try that and report back. But based on what I’m seeing, watching my antenna channels does work. Hope this helps, and don’t give up hope.

I am glad it is working for you. My server is a Western Digital My Cloud Home which does not allow me to upgrade the server version manually. I have to wait for Western Digital to upgrade it.

You should look into running it on another device if that’s the case.

Maybe I should run on a different device, but my server is on the Plex supported server list. I used to have it running on an old Win XP box before that. Or maybe it would be cheaper and better supported to just by a Tivo or something like that.

The thing that I don’t understand is why its considered a server upgrade fix when it works on my Android phone, Amazon tablet, Windows desktop, web interface. The only place it does not work for me is the Roku. I know the server version is older on the WD MyCloud, but it does not cause a problem for the other clients. There is another forum entry for why the MyCloud has an older version. Plex and Western Digital are just pointing fingers at each other.

When this problem started the Local TV & DVR Guide was only missing from Roku. Today it is not accessible from Plex Web. It says it requires server 1.24.4 or later. So far it is still accessible via Android, Plex Win app, and my Kindle Fire. I hope this problem does not spread faster than the problem can be fixed for upgrading Plex server on MyCloud.

4/28/22 update: Today the Local TV & DVR Guide is now missing from the Windows Plex app. If it continues to be removed from all other platforms then I won’t be able to set new shows to be recorded. And that was the reason that I purchased the Plex Pass. If anyone from Plex is reading this, please don’t continue to remove core functionality. I don’t care about seeing the Live TV. But if you like that ability, then add a configuration option to include that and allow those of us who don’t want it to continue with the functionality we want. We shouldn’t have to buy new hardware to keep core functionality.

5/13/22 update: My Kindle Fire got a Plex update. It shows the new Plex logo. But the good news is that it still has separate Live TV & DVR and Live TV so I can still access the Guide for recording.

5/27/22 update: My MyCloud got an automatic update today which included Plex 1.25.9.5752. This fixed the problem for me.
