Admittedly my Samsung H model is rather old, but up until recently Plex has worked like a charm. Lately, however, Plex -or rather my TV - crashes when I want to continue watching. There is no problem when I start from the beginning of media files.
I checked 2 mkv files, one video that doesn’t make the TV crash and one that does with mkvalidator. They were both valid mkv files, as it turns out. So then I compared the files with MediaInfo (from MediaArena) and saw quite a few differences in terms of fps, Format profile (High@L3.1 v. High@L3.2). But then I realised that I’ve never had a crash with files with AC3 audio, only with EAC3. But not with all EAC3 files. I see that with these 2 files, the unproblematic one has ‘plain’ E-AC-3 and the one giving me trouble has E-AC-3 JOC, which apparently is Dolby Digital Plus with Dolby Atmos. Could it be that the audio codec is wreaking havoc on my TV? I know this is all rather speculative, so what I’d like to ask is if there is a way to convert only the audio inside the mkv file, leaving all else as is?
It’s not the end of the world if I don’t solve this - I now connect a laptop to my TV via HDMI and I could buy a device like a chromecast to put between server and TV I guess, but if I could continue to use Plex on the TV it would be great.
Thanks for your attention,
Sandokan
(PS: It’s actually the TV that reboots when I try to continue watching a video)
