My Plex Player show all the media from streaming TV & Movies on 2 Apple TVs as well as macs and iPads. But has stopped showing my media from my plex server on a synology NAS on 2 Macs and 2 iPads it still shows on Apple TVs.
I had to restart the server as I moved to a different town and have had this problem since. The plex player on my Roku TV works fine as well. So any idea of what happened to the Macs and iPads?
PLEASE HELP!
Thank you!
It sounds like a network issue.
The fact that you can still access your collection from the ATVs would indicate the move wasn’t a total disaster : - )
Try to isolate what changed.
I have isolated what changed but still the Plex app does not show up the way to setup for the app. I can not get it to show how to ask for the media library.
well if you’re still talking about the iPad for example, it’s safe to delete Plex from your iPad and download it and reinstall. You can go further to completely uninstall it from the iPad beyond deleting it. Before you reinstall it, you can open up the plex web app in a web browser, I think it’s app.plex.tv, and go into your Settings → Authorized Devices → Change the All drop down list to say iOS → and delete the iPad we’re talking about..
Removing it like that then gives you a fresh start on that iPad where reinstalling it will require you to do a Plex Sign-in. That should cause it to do the usual setup you expect where you should be able to choose your server.
As far as getting it working on you Mac desktop, there is a support article on how to completely uninstall it which may be necessary to reset the app so to speak. The last step there should also be to delete that Mac from your list of Authorized Devices before you reinstall.
Below is a script I call delplex.sh that I used in previous years to automate the complete uninstall of Plex For Mac, but I haven’t checked it recently to see if the paths have changed or if something has been added. The support Article should be up to date though.
#!/usr/bin/env bash
echo
rm -rf /Applications/Plex.app && echo '[1/6] deleted the app'
rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/Plex && rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/tv.plex.desktop && echo '[2/6] deleted the caches'
rm -rf ~/Library/Logs/Plex && echo '[3/6] deleted the logs'
rm -rf ~/Library/Saved\ Application\ State/tv.plex.desktop.savedState && echo '[4/6] deleted the saved application state'
rm -rf ~/Library/HTTPStorages/tv.plex.desktop && rm -rf ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.plex.PlexUpdater.savedState && echo '[5/6] deleted the httpstorages'
rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Plex && echo '[6/6] deleted the application support'
echo 'Plex for Mac has been removed. Please reboot to clear any traces from memory, and remove it from your list of Authorized Devices -> Desktop'
echo
