Plex player shows 'No Internet Connection' if a server is offline

Server Version#:
Player Version#: 9.3.0.32977 (842534161)\

i: Hello, Plex for Android world (debug: false)!
i: App version: 9.3.0.32977 (842534161)
i: Nano server version: 1.25.7.5604-980a13e02
i: FFmpeg version: 1.7-62cc2bc17d
i: Treble version: 2.1.0.587
i: ASS version: 0.14.0
i: Manufacturer: NVIDIA Device: foster Model: SHIELD Android TV Product: foster_e_hdd Version: 11\

Following up on a comment I left in a previous post here - my libraries will come back but despite having 2 servers (1 Windows and 1 shield (DVR recordings from TV), when I open the plex player on the shield, which is also a server and I have TV recordings stored locally), I am told that there is no internet connection.

  • With server 2 (Windows machine) on open plex player on shield.
  • Verify things seem to work OK, you can pin a library from server 2 and play a file.
  • On the shield close and kill the plex player from the list of open apps.
  • Put server 2 to sleep and restart the plex player
  • Wait about 20 seconds for the seemingly endless spinner (20220602_054935.jpeg below).
  • Eventually you will get a message to check the internet connection because NOTHING is available. Apparently even the local DVR is no longer accessible.
  • Again, kill the player.
  • Wake up / turn back on server 2 (my windows box) and give it a few seconds to warm up.
  • Open plex player
  • WUNDERBAR!!! It all works again.

@BigWheel , this was not an issue until we received the fix for Nvidia Shield - Pinned source disappear when Plex server is unavailable

PLEXLOGAFTERUPGRADE.log (135.5 KB)

If you are intentionally putting the server to sleep how is the player suppose to find it? The message about internet connection is a generic one when it cannot find server. The DVR is part of the server

The other topic was about the libraries becoming unpinned. When they should have just said they cannot be found with a warning triangle and the message you are getting.

I might be misunderstanding something

It looks like I might have missed a small bit of detail @BigWheel .

That screen showing ‘check internet connection’ is the Plex Player’s home screen which shows all servers (NVidia DVR as well as the Windows machine) even the plex free tv thing.

One of the things you will notice in the attached log file:
When the Windows machine was put to sleep and the player shows ‘check connection’ it found 1 server - which is fine, there was only the shield, so why didn’t it show that on the Home Screen?

*06-02 05:30:08.484 i: [GDM] Done browsing, we found 1 servers.*

But when both servers were up and running, and the home screen showed without issue it found 2 servers.

OK so I did misunderstand I think. so just to recap for my own brain

You have two servers.
One on Windows and one on the Shield itself.
The one on shield runs the DVR.
libraries from WIndows and DVR/Live TV from Shield are pinned.
When the Windows machine was put to sleep. all things on home screen disappeared including the DVR stuff from the shield.

is that correct?

Looks like you have a bunch of things pinned. Can I ask which order are things pinned. Are Windows libraries pinned above the shield DVR stuff for example.

( as a total sidenote looks like you need to fix the overscan on your TV. the icons on left sidebar should not be cut off like that. different brand TVs call overscan various things but usually in picture settings. I thinkt he shield itself has its own overscan settings as well you can use if the TV does not have them)

Thanks for the info about ‘overscan’, I fixed it on the TV and Plex now looks better and I think that this thread can be closed.

It looks like, over time with the bug, the shield’s libraries were also unpinned. After I pinned them and retried my steps above, the home screen showed with the shield’s libraries and the Window’s machine’s libraries were marked as unavailable…

Product team should add a feature to show an error message and maybe a stock ‘dvd cover’ for libraries that were there, are still pinned but unreachable.

Interesting info in the attached log, for another thread perhaps, how can my 2 servers not be claimed, they are already mine AND assigned to my account.

And also, the Shield has not been rebooted recently so why are the libraries not accessible?
