I’m pretty green to Plex so forgive me if this seems like a dumb question. Can someone provide me some insight on how the player version gets updated? I have the most recent version of the server version but my player version doesn’t seem to be updated. I have absolutely no idea what is limiting me on this. From what I gathered so far it seems like the server doesn’t always get the most recent version of the player. This is totally fine it just seems like mine is unusually far back. I’ve seen some posts run older server versions but they have a player version of like 4.3 or something. I am running Plex’s “official” docker container and have it set to use the latest version in Unraid. I tried digging through their git hub to find any info on this version and even of some other containers in unraid to try and see if it was maybe a container packaging thing. I have tried using the apps.plex.tv/desktop link like I’ve seen some people suggest but the version listed above is what that link gives me not anything newer. When I use my IP and port it goes even older to 4.116.1. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
There are many different players/clients, and they have their own versions that aren’t tied to the server or other client versions. As far as the web app is concerned, 4.121.1 is the latest available, but that’s only if you’re accessing the web app through app.plex.tv. When you navigate to the web app using your IP:port, you’re accessing the web app that’s bundled with the server, which is usually a few versions behind app.plex.tv. The server release notes will mention when the bundled web app is updated (e.g. the latest beta, 1.40.0 bumped it to 4.118.0, but 4.116.1 is the latest version available in the public release).
oh, my blind ass can’t read numbers correctly. I thought my version said 4.16 not 4.116 so I was wondering why it was so outdated but it is fact current. Thank you sir!
