Plex player working but Media Server is not working

I can run Plex player but Plex Media Server will not run. What do i need to do to fix this.

Step 1: share some more details

such as but not limited to…

  • what platform is your Plex Media Server running on (e.g. NAS, PC…)
  • what OS version do you have installed on that machine
  • what version of the Plex Media Server do you have installed
  • what steps have you taken to start the Plex Media Server
  • any error messages
  • if the server is “just” not visible from the player… have you been able to connect to the server using a different player
    • e.g. through Plex Web -> 127.0.0.1:32400/web if you’re working on the same machine that is supposed to be running the server; [server IP address]:32400/web otherwise

I am running Windows 10. I downloaded the latest version of Plex Server today. When I try running the server the screen is black and a circle is spinning in the middle of the screen. There are no error messages. The strange thing is Media Server appears for about a second then the screen goes black with the spinning circle.I try to start it by clicking on the icon on the bottom right of windows.

Ok… if there’s a Plex icon in the task tray, that means the server is running.
Can you open it in your browser using http://127.0.0.1:32400/web?
If it doesn’t work… can you check it out with a different browser (e.g. Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Firefox)?

Can’t open in Chrome but it does in Edge??

Do you have some content blocker / security tools installed in your Chrome that could interfere with Plex loading properly?
If you do… check if you can set an exception for the plex page (the given URL and if you want to also for http://app.plex.tv/desktop)
