I’ve given up on the Shield. Been over a year. Replaced it with an Apple TV 4k and couldn’t be happier.
Don’t blame the Shield. Plex doesn’t work on Fire TV either
Ok, if it makes you feel better, I’ll rephrase. I’ve given up on all Android based devices. Swapped to Apple, and couldn’t be happier.
I’ll be right behind you when the Apple TV can direct play 4k content without transcoding it. When the enhanced player was introduced it made the Apple TV a much better device for plex
In this boat too. Constant issues using an Android smart TV or a Xaomi Mi Box S. While plugging in a Chromecast and casting to that works flawlessly. When will the Android TV actually be usable??
Same boat with The Mi Box, constant error messages of your network is not fast enough blah blah blah. Does the same error occur on the Apple TV 4k?
I am now at the point where I am willing to throw money at an alternative device that does NOT encounter this problem. Poor form Plex.
Does the AppleTV 4K have to transcode all media to mp4 and AAC audio? Most of my content is mkv.
With the enhanced player almost everything direct plays but 4k content and TrueHD/Atmos audio
I am also experiencing this issue. Nvidia Shield direct playing video over Gig ethernet.
Same problem on mine, started in the last month.
I just got the Nvidia Shield as my Roku plays UHD fine except the bandwidth sucks. I needed the Shield’s gig NIC. I randomly get the “not fast enough to play” message.
Anyway, look at my Activity dashboard while streaming straight remux of Guardians of the Galaxy v2 UHD. The first minute shows the throughput over the Shield ethernet (rollercoaster spiking way high) and the back part is me switching the stream over to my Roku Plex app. Bandwidth then bumps back down to normal.
I can confirm the fix for slower connection on the shield is in the works. Prior to the fix on a high latency connection it would max around 50Mbps, with the fix it now reaches around 250Mbps. The receive window calculation was incorrect which caused slower connection. It should also help with a steady connection to your content. The shieldtv support forum folks have been excellent and nothing but praise for them.

Oddly enough, when I cast the same video to the shield from my iPhone XS there are no issues. Seems like it’s an android issue
I ended up running an Ethernet cable to the Shield TV as an experiment and haven’t had the problem since. Definitely not an option for all of you, but it may be for some of you.

I have 2 Shields, both are hardwired and both see this is still. 1080p or 720p, doesn’t matter…
Have two airtv players getting the connection not fast enough. Reverted back to 6.1.2 and testing now. This is really bad do you know the amount of trouble shooting I did thinking this was a problem with my network. Even brought a new crossover . Plex get this together. I won’t be renewing my Plex pass next month until this is corrected.
