Plex Playing Wrong File

Server Version#: 1.24.5.5173
Player Version#: 4.69.1

First time posting so I hope I’m doing it right. I’m frustrated and could use some guidance.

Burned 500 movies using both Handbrake and Make MKV. Followed the right naming convention (all movies are in a top level folder called “Movies”, each Movie has it’s TVDB or TMDB File Name followed in parens by the year, e.g. True Grit (2010). When I go to play some of the movies (seems to be more associated with Blu Ray movies) only the trailer plays. There are plenty of files in the folder and the naming convention follows this syntax: title_t00.mkv and goes through to title_t10.mkv.

If anyone can help, gosh I’d be so happy!

Local Files for Movie Trailers and Extras

Please provide a directory listing, screenshot, etc showing your file naming and organization.

What are the files named title_tXX.mkv and where are they located?

The movie file, not just the folder, must follow Plex naming & organization requirements.

Trailers and extras have very specific naming and organization requirements. If not followed, they will not be recognized.

Plex does not try to match the names of extras to any online databases. They appear using the name of the file.

Example:

/Movies
.../True Grit (2010)
....../True Grit (2010).mkv
....../Trailers
........./Theatrical Trailer.mkv
....../Other
........./title_03.mkv

Hi Plex Ninja -
First - THANKS a lot for responding. I will have to send the screenshot a bit later this evening. In the mean time here are some answers:

Q: What are the files named title_tXX.mkv and where are they located?
A: These are the native files that burned using Make MKV. taxonomically they are located as follows: /Movies /True Grit (2010)/ [then there are 11 files]

I think it is following the correct naming convention as most all of the other 500 movies I burned are working well. It seems to be two that I have checked (True Grit and No Country for Old Men) both seem to have problems.

I’ll send a screen shot later tonight.

thanks very much.

That’s not going to work. You have to follow Plex naming & organization rules.

See documentation and example in my prior post.

Correct your naming and organization, then Plex Dance the files.

Here is a screen shot that shows the files:

Thanks for providing the screenshot.

While you’ve named the folder correctly, you haven’t completed the naming of the actual file .

From your screenshot, I can see file named title_t00.mkv is most likely the movie and the others are the extras.

On that basis,

  1. Rename title_t00.mkvTrue Grit (2010).mkv
  2. For each of the other files, you must examine them and give them a descriptive filename and “extras” classification . Here are the options available to you.

Using one of mine as example (with the movie and ‘-scene’ clips,
