It seems that the latest PMS Version 1.14.0.5470 doesn’t allow the servers to enter sleep mode even though they are not doing anything.
Was nice if the server wasn’t doing anything useful to let it sleep to conserve power.
Would like to see this function return…
Just stopping PMS and waiting will cause the system to enter sleep mode.
This has always worked in previous versions of PMS…
I’ve tried to force sleep and that doesn’t work. I have to shutdown PMS for it to go into sleep mode, but that’s not what I want.
So if the server is in sleep mode, when someone opens Plex client, it will wake up? I have turned off all sleep mode options on my server (hard drive sleep, OS sleep…). Didn’t know otherwise.
No it wont wake up on it’s own…
Would be nice but that’s the WOL (wake on lan) feature that some have asked for…
I have a timer set to wake the different servers at different times of the day depending on the user’s assigned to that server. One wakes up early afternoon and then is allowed to sleep later that evening, It stays on for only about 6 hours a day then.
And if someone was watching something it wouldn’t sleep till after they had finished for half an hour, plenty of time to start another show or movie.
Experiencing the same problem. If shut down computer, and start computer with Plex loading automatically through startup, computer will not sleep automatically, but can still force computer to sleep. If open Plex Server, cannot even force sleep to occur. If close down Plex server, can force computer to sleep and computer will sleep automatically.
Yes, that’s what I see now with the latest Version 1.14.0.5470…
Not sure why they would have made that type of change…
Now I have all these servers running 24/7 because of that change.
Maybe I’ll get lucky and the next release it will go back the way it was…
other then that, maybe there is a script that could be used to shutdown Plex when its not being used, that would allow the system to enter sleep mode.
Yes, hopefully the next upgrade will correct the problem.
In the meantime, I have disabled Plex in Windows Startup. Most of the time I run Plex from a NAS with all video files located on the NAS. The NAS is a little limited in transcoding ability, but works fine in the home theatre where I have a dedicated computer still running Plex Home Theatre. The only time I really need to run Plex Server on my main computer is when I want to watch a video ripped from a Blu-ray disc on the smart TV located in the family area or watch a reasonably large file on an iPad. Therefore, disabling Plex in startup is not a major problem - I would simply load the Plex Server on the main computer when required.
I’m afraid, writing a script as you suggest is beyond my capabilities. However, it would be useful to alert the Plex developers to this problem. Do you know what the mechanism is to do this? - I am relatively new to this Forum.
The more someone wants something the less likely they are to get a response, especially one that works the way you want.
In this case not enough interest.
My setup is NAS’s for storage and I run mini-pc’s to support the users, different users grouped on what type of devices that they use and when they are most likely to use it. Most are on just a few hours a day… weekends mostly very busy early and late afternoon.
It appears that the latest upgrade of Plex (Version 1.14.1.5488) has corrected the problem where the computer would not go into sleep mode automatically.
I now have re-set Plex to load automatically at Windows Startup and the computer will enter sleep mode after the designated period, even if I open Plex Server for some purpose, eg add video. The only thing I haven’t tested as yet is whether the computer enters sleep after watching a video on a player device.
I’m running Windows 10 Version 1803 with the latest update (Build17134.472) which loaded recently.
