I discovered Plex yesterday and have been using it through the browser on the PS4. Outside of a few issues (below) I think it's a fantastic service. Now, I have some questions, and I apologise in advance, I'm in no way a tech whiz.
Now, I initially set up Plex locally, so I downloaded the program for the mac, opened it, added some stuff, went to my machines local ip (+additional address - eg - 192.168.2.1:32400/web) and it worked a chaaaaaarm, was fantastic and didn't make a dent in the internet speeds of the other people in the house.
I went to bed last night, woke up this morning and all of a sudden my PS4 cannot connect to the very same local address I was using last night (exactly the same, as I bookmarked it). The page goes white and then it comes up with cannot connect to the server.
I had changed no settings on either the version of Plex on my computer or the one on my PS4, I hadn't shut my computer down and the ip of the mac remains the same, the PS4 was successful in visiting other websites via the browser and using native online features.
I've since been using the plex.tv/web address on the PS4 browser which, while working, isn't exactly ideal. It's a bit slower and seems to have a negative effect on other peoples speeds.
Does anyone know what could be wrong? I'm confused about why it was working and now is not when nothing has changed. I've restarted my Mac, PS4 and the programs multiple times, checked and rechecked settings multiple times and I'm out of ideas.
As for the second issue - Annoyingly I'm a victim of PS4's lack of support for MP3s, does anyone know the best program for just converting the audio of a video file so that it's AAC? Or would I have to convert both video and audio.
