Plex Qnap WRONG CZECH subtitle, problem windows 1250 utf-8

Server Version#: 1.25.2.5319
Player Version#:anywhere, Samsung TV, LG TV, android app

Hi,

I was using Plex server on intel NUC without any problems. I bought QNAP TS-230 in installed plex server the NAS can handle it without problems.

I have the same setting on QNAP as on Intel NUC but the subtitles are not showing the czech language properly. The problem is format of the subtitles.

I do not understand why the subtitles are working on Windows Plex server but they are not working on the QNAP Plex server.

THIS IS DEFINATELY BUG, PLEASE FIX THIS BUG.

I know there is option to convert/ rename subtitles but I do have 6TB movies all with subtitles I can not imagine to do it.

THANK YOU

Are you using the new primary agents, or the old legacy ones?

Hi,

Im not aware about new and old agents. Im using for Movies the Local Media Assets(Movies).

If you edit your Library, what’s the name of the agent?

Is it Plex Movie or something else?

Hi,

I have this setting:

Do you suggest to change it?
Thank you

Above means you are running the newest agents, that are lightning fast

Sad news though is that they do not interact with 3rd. Party Python based plugins

As such, I sadly suspect your only option is to manually convert your subs to utf-8 :frowning:

I can only recommend this:

Thats imposible to do it with 6TB of movie and serials. Why is it on Windows Plex server working and on the Qnap Plex server not? This is obviously BUG you should FIX it. This is not only BUG for Czech rep. but also for Poland and Slovakia, do you know how milions people is it togetger?

On Windows, the default codepage for the filesystem for you is windows-1250

On a Linux box, the default is in about 99,9% of the times utf-8

Utf-8 works on all platforms, and is also the req. encoding

So when using it on Windows, you where simply plain lucky

When said, the PMS on your Windows box, does that use the same agent as primary, or does it use an agent that has the name Legacy in it?

I had to convert the subtitles into format UTF8-without BOM and its working fine. When converted into UTF8-with BOM subtitles are wrong if its helpfull.

I do not know, I have uninstlled Plex server on my windows, there was problem to run two servers on one network.

So, you can not do anything, we have convert all new subtitles forever. Where can I make a complain?

Thank you

Having multiple servers on the same network should not be a problem

With above setup, then yes, or find better subs

If you where running the older legacy agents, then you could use a plugin I wrote that would update the subs for you, but as said, plugins doesn’t work with the newer native agents

I can have my team leader pop by this thread if you want, but as I see it, there’s nothing to complain about, since the article I linked to a few posts ago, clearly said to use utf-8

And I still fail to see why you could not use SubTitle Edit as I also mentioned, and converting an srt file does not take that long

We only support UTF-8 officially as mentioned. I can ask if others can be, but I can’t make any promises. Suggest making a feature request in our feature suggestion forum

Hi,

sorry I did not mean complain, but to log a BUG. The Qnap Plex server should have same funkcions/features as Windows Plex server.

Where could I log a BUG please?

For temporary use you helped me, tank you

That’s sadly not possible to to the difference between Windows and Linux (QNAP) OS

Comon… Plex software is the best, you can create online transcoding and you can not fix the subtitles??

Plex has a policy never ever to mess with user files!
As such, Plex will never ever replace your files.
It’s something you have to do yourself, or use 3rd.Party tools for

You dont have to touch files and still you can fix the subtitles, no? Im not genius but load subtitle into RAM memory, change subtitle only temporary in memory…

I’m sorry, but as already said, the req. for ALL platforms are to use utf-8 encoding

So when you add a sub, make sure it’s in that encoding

Then you tell me why UTF8-with BOM does not work?

I can’t with the limited info you provided

  • Maybe one of the players used can’t handle it?
  • Maybe the BOM was placed incorrectly?
  • Maybe ?

What I can say, is that it’s not recommended to use BOM.

From the source itself:
Use of a BOM is neither required nor recommended for UTF-8
