I posted about my issues on the synology forums, here, but here’s the text if you don’t want to click links:
I’ve been using my 918 as a plex server since I got it without issue. Something happened recently (an update? unsure) and now plex seems to have forgotten it’s running a media server. Synology’s package center shows it running. Clicking the URL brings up the plex interface with all of the crap they’ve added to it, but my folders are gone. The files are all still there on the NAS, but the Your Media frame shows “Add your media to plex” with a link to download plex server, instead of the folders I had set up. Very weird, like it’s only running the plex online stuff and nothing local.
I’ve tried multiple restarts/reinstalls and multiple plex versions to no avail. I checked permissions and the plex user has RW on both the plex folder and the one where the media lives (i.e. no change). What do I do?
the plex user is a normal (non-admin) user and has R/W permissions on the plex folder and on the media folder. here are the settings: plex synology issues - Album on Imgur
I had previously posted that my Plex server running on a Synology DS-420+ was randomly crashing, and most mornings I would wake to discover it had shut down overnight.
I would respond on those threads, but they have been automatically closed.
I can happily report that somewhere in the last update or two, the problem has been fixed and has been operating since the last time I rebooted my server.
Looking at what’s here in thread, I see a number of the problems got fixed in the current BETA release (it’s a bug-fix release).
I don’t know if everyone’s will be fixed but there is a positive step
You’ll also find I did some bullet-proofing of the start/stop scripting.
(I found a few cases where PMS would crash but not cleanup correctly and require DSM reboot).
I’m having a similar issue with Plex not wanting to run. Everything was working fine, for several years, to include regular updates of NAS and Plex. I am running a Synology DS1618+ on DSM7 42218-2 and was running Plex on 1.25.3.5409.
I uninstalled Plex to add new HDDs to my server, switching from RAID0 to RAID10; which required a full backup of all media and the deletion of all folders associated to the previous setup. Since bringing the system back up, I cannot update from the available Plex Beta version (1.21.0-3744). I have tried multiple times to update to newer versions of Plex; every time I update the package fails to run. I click the run button and it indicates that it is starting up. Once I click the open button, it says that it has manually stopped. Plex will not run with any update version. I was able to configure and run Plex just fine on the Beta (1.21.0-3744), but there are some good updates, that used to work fine, that I can’t take advantage of now. I have repeated checked all permissions as indicated when reinstalling Plex and Plex updates. All permissions are selected appropriately.
I do not understand this issue, especially since even when attempting to update to older Plex update versions I am now having problems. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
