Plex reinstall after windows 10 reset/reinstall/fresh start

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

So my computer was giving me trouble I haven’t used Plex for a month. I did a complete backup registery key and folders etc as spelled out in how to backup. Maybe it’s because of the huge fork Plex is doing but when I install Plex it cannot find any of my old data. Do I need to install an older version of Plex or how can I find my libraries etc???

Did you restore that info after reinstalling Windows?

I thought I had but just figured out I didn’t. Still could use some advice . I have the original registery key and I had all my Plex data saved safely in an alternate location on another hard drive, all 150 gig. Can I just go in and point to it???

What you should have done was

1 - backup Plex Media Server folder
2 - backup registry
3 - reinstall Windows
4 - install PMS
5 - restore Plex Media Server folder to the same location as before
6 - import the backup registry

The registry points to where the files in step 5 are. If you restore to the wring location, then it won’t find the files and will appear to be a new server. If you placed 5 into the wrong location, then you need an additional step.

7a - Open Plex Web, under settings \ Server \ General \ The path where local application data is stored, enter the path to 5. Restart PMS.

or 7b - Edit the registry, find the entry that shows the path to 5, edit it. Restart PMS.
