(sorry maybe a FAQ)
Hi,
plex and plexHTPC are running on Linux and a wireless keyboard as a ‘remote’. The Linux box is connected via hdmi to a TV.
I’d like to use an ipad as a pure remote for the server. From what I read, this is not possible anymore - not with an unlocked iPad app or with a plex-pass subscription?
IMHO: ideal would be the use case, of streaming to the ipad and switching on fly to plexHTPC on the linux box…
Where did you read Plex HTPC can’t be used as an “advertise as player” device?
Why don’t you just try it out?
No, I mean ipad-app as remote and video/audio output on the server
(plexHTPC is of course controllable with a keyboard).
Here is some discussion: How to use iPad app as remote to Plex server on Windows across wifi?
That’s what @lunamonkey described. You can remote control playback on the Plex HTPC app using the Plex app on iOS.
You can no longer remote control the web app or the Plex for Linux/Windows/Mac desktop apps (which are based on the web app layout).
