I’m not exactly sure when this started, maybe a year ago, but after probably 7-8 years of Plex being rock solid, all of a sudden I could not fast forward or rewind consistently, and when I hit resume on a piece of media it will either:
- Start it from the beginning at which point fast forward and rewind appear to be completely disabled
- Try to start it from the resume time but simply buffer and buffer and buffer
- Try to start it at the resume time, play for a second, and then buffer constantly
I am also seeing multiple versions of the same media being played at the same time, so when I quit a show and then try to resume again, it shows up twice on my Plex dash.
This is happening on the home theater (latest version) app on Mac, Roku, Apple TV, Fire Stick, and web player. It’s my user in multiple locations and others’ users, too. Here is a common sequence of events for any given night where I’m watching something.
- Watching a show
- Need to press pause (this works fine)
- Push play after a couple minutes
- Show plays for a minute or two
- Show abruptly cuts off and Plex thinks it’s over, and shows the next episode of whatever it is
- I exit and see that the resume marker is set correctly, so I hit resume
- Plex thinks for a moment, then plays from the beginning
- I quit the episode and try again
- Plex thinks for a minute and then skips to the correct location but never plays
After 3 or 4 times it either:
- Works finally and the show continues
- Never does work
- Eventually does play but only from the beginning and initially it will not allow me to ff/rw so I have to restart it multiple times until that functionality comes back, then I manually find where I left off
This is incredibly irritating and it all seemed to come out of the blue. Everything was completely fine for years and then, boom, all of these issues popped up all at once.
