Seeking (fast-forward/rewind/resuming) causes video to restart

Server Version#: 1.2x and 1.3x
Player Version#: latest Roku version

I’ve tried running a server on windows, Linux and freebsd, all of them seem to have the same problem where various video files cause the playing video to restart if you attempt to resume playback, rewind, or fast-forward.

The only workaround I’ve found online is to disable direct streaming and direct play options entirely. But then…after about 30 seconds the Roku plex app just crashed. So I can’t use that method either.

Browsing reddit etc., it seems this issue has persisted for a while.

Skipping ahead in a video playing app seems pretty fundamental.

Edit: not all videos, just some. Also in the past I have found re-encoding videos has resolved the issue but I’m tired of doing this.

I guess you only experience this behavior on your Roku and not on other Plex apps?

I don’t have any other devices…I can test from PC later.

Web player seems to work. But that doesn’t really help me :man_shrugging:t2:

If I may add here?

I spoke with the Roku test team.

You should have 7.0.24

Roku has version 7.0.25 but won’t release it.
The team has 7.0.28 ready to jump ahead of everything but again, Roku won’t release it.

There is, as I undstand it, changes at Roku about app acceptance.

From our perspective, they’re stalling/slow-rolling it.

I wish I knew more to tell you but it seems “passing the Roku release hurdle” is the issue.
