PMS Version: 4.47.3 (on windows 10 host using windows virtualbox)
Roku App Version: 6.7 Build 4
Roku Ultra 2020
Date/Time Reproduced: 12/19/2020 13:35 CT
When I press pause/play on the Roku remote during a video playback after using “instant replay”, the video doesn’t pause but goes blank. The Plex App video controls pop up on the screen when pressing pause, it’s only the video content that goes blank. The audio keeps playing, so I know the playback has not paused. Pressing pause/play again does nothing. The only way to recover is to press the instant replay on the remote again.
Other functions on the remote have no issue. Other plex media players, no issue. I also use emby media server, and there is no issue with instant replay and pause on it.
I’ve tried the below without luck:
removing and reinstalling the Plex Roku App.
rebooting the Roku
Changing batteries in the remote
relinking the remote
I’ve enabled remote and local logging on the Plex Roku App. Attached PMS Server Logs and local Plex App log. Also attached media.xml.
I can confirm this problem on Roku Ultra 2020 and the previous versions. (I have 2 2020 version, and 2 prior version Ultras.) When I use my Samsung Tizen app to watch, the controls work as expected. When I use the PLex app from a Chromecast with Google TV, I don’t get the onscreen progress bar but pause and play work as they should. It’s only the Roku apps, and that includes the preview and the non preview apps that are blanking the screen yet continuing to play audio…
I’m here to say I am having this problem too. This is very new behavior and only started after swapping out my Roku 4660X2 for the 4800. I am NOT using the instant replay button and am having this problem.
They well may “look” at the problem and they may well even fix it but it is doubtful they will ever acknowledge that there is an issue.
It was well reported and even confirmed by other users but Plex is silent.
That is totally within expectations for Plex support.
BTW: I have seen the bug as well but I do not expect any official response even if we get a fix. Plex is too busy trying to find new ways to monetize Plex to waste any time on keeping users informed.
Hi and thanks for your comment. I’ll refrain from saying something negative about Plex Support, but if they expect to monetize from me, they won’t . This issue is a deal breaker for me. I wouldn’t buy a Plex Pass until it’s resolved .
Having the same issue on Roku Ultra 2020. Pausing causes screen to blank but playback doesn’t stop. Have to exit out of the video and resume playback. Then pause works okay. Instant replay then doesn’t work right.
I found that if you press instant replay again when this happens, it stops playback and continues after the rewind. The pause issue only occurs after using instant replay. The only work around is to not use instant replay and use rewind for a short time, but you have to be quick. It’s not a good work around.
I too am having this problem. I just upgraded to a Roku Ultra, and the problem has already occurred two or three times. I never had this problem with Plex on my old Roku 3. I don’t know if the Plex app is different on the two versions of Roku or what, but it’s definitely an issue.
As others have said, my workaround has been to exit the video and restart it.
We have confirmed that this issues does affect the Roku Ultra 4800. We cannot find any other models that exhibit this behavior. We are investigating and will update this thread when we have more info.
I just got a new Roku Ultra and I’m using it with Plex v 4.47.3 running on Windows 10. When I pause a show, I can’t press play and start it again using the Roku remote. I have to go out of the video and choose Resume to get back in. I have never used instant replay. It does this every time I try to pause. My Roku 2 didn’t do this. I didn’t know if it was a problem with the Roku or with Plex.
