On my Plex server, I have my default language set to Japanese and my default subtitle language to English with subtitled default to be on and always burned. Whenever I use the roku plex application, the subtitles are always on by default but for the past few weeks, whenever I rewind or fast forward, the subtitles turn off and I have to manually re-enable them. It happens almost every time I rewind/fast forward. Is this happening to anyone else?
Just did some spot checking here, and noticed a possible regression when burn subtitles is enabled. Can you confirm you have that enabled? if so we are tracking the same bug.
Sorry yes, burn is enabled always because some subtitled files don’t show up unless burned. Is a temporary solution to turn off burning or should i just wait until the update?
Yes, for some reason setting the Roku to “always burn” deselects the subtitle track server side (even forced subs). I was just going to make a thread about this.
I’ve noticed this on my Roku (ff/rewing shuts subtitles off), and also in some other instances also, such as if you stop playing a video mid-way through… so I’m not sure if the same bugfix will catch that as well?
For what it’s worth, my Roku -> Settings -> Burn Subtitles option is also set to “Automatic”, not “Always”, but it still exhibits this behavior.
Makoto99, I’m not finding that option and I’m not able to run subtitles on my Roku either, could you be a little more specific on where the Burn Subtitles setting is? I see some subtitles settings under Accessibility, but nowhere else. Thanks!
If you click your user profile icon at the top of the left menu, you can then click Settings > Subtitles > Burn Subtitles > [Always/Automatic/Only Image Formats]
I have noticed a change in the last day of it not happening, but I am not sure yet. Was wondering if a developer can tell me if there was a bug fix in the newest update?
This issue should have been fixed in our preview release 6 days ago. The official channel has just been approved and updated by Roku. Version 6.5.3 has the fix.
note: The issue was related to burning subtitles. It affected anyone who enabled always burning subtitles, or if the subtitle was incompatible and needed to be burned in.
I can verify that, for me at least, my Roku is updated to 6.5.3 and I can stop playing a video mid-way through and it doesn’t shut off my subtitles. Now I can enjoy my stay-at-home-quarantining without stress! Thanks guys!
