Plex stops video as soon as a VOSUB file is selected for the subtitle. It does not matter which video/media file, as long as it has VOSUB enabled this problem is reproduced. The video and VOSUB subtitle works on plex for windows, “legacy” android plex app, and outside of plex with players like VLC. Really anything but the new plex app it works on. But in this new experience plex app, it crashes/provides a runtime error.
Zip file was a little too big, so here is a google drive share link with the two short videos (<20 seconds) if this is allowed. Can play within google drive so you do not need to download.
It is a problem with 2025.16.0 and 2025.17.0 affecting all android mobile devices.
Plex is aware of the problem and working on a fix.
The workaround is to (a) set Burn Subtitles = Always in the Plex android mobile app, or (b) use a different subtitle format (PGS, SRT) if one is available..
Thanks so much for the response! When was the issue first reported? When 2025.16 was released? Did plex ever mention in another post about when they expect a fix?
The problem did not exist in 2025.15, so it was reported sometime after 2025.16 was available.
Plex has not said which release will have the fix. The fix will most likely appear in a beta release first, then in the public release. Plex has been releasing updates every 7 - 10 days.
You can subscribe to the beta and public release notes to be notified when a new release is available. Change Normal to Watching at the bottom of the thread.
