Haven’t seen others mention my particular problem since the app update–none of my TV shows or movies on my server will play on my phone while connected to my home network (or via mobile data). They will, however, stream to Chromecast (everything on same wifi network). Not sure it’s a server setup issue, music does stream in the Plexamp app (regardless of home network connection or mobile data) and I checked my remote access settings. Not sure if there are other settings that tells Plex it’s allowed to play media from my server that the new app is messing with?
At one point a few days ago, I deleted the app and reinstalled, and it installed the old app (guess Plex rolled it back for a bit) and streaming from my home server worked again–but they re-released (?) the new app, and again I can’t actually access my files. I get “Error Occurred Unexpected runtime error.” pop up every time I try to play a video file.
I don’t have iOS devices, but both Android phones I have are unable to access videos from my Plex server on the new Plex app.
Anyone know if this is a “user is not a media server network technician guy and doesn’t know what he’s doing” issue or a “Plex’s app is doing something funky, please just roll it back to an app that worked” issue?
I’m in the same boat for downloads - literally the only feature I wanted when I paid for the subscription. Extremely frustrating. And distressing to find a 17 day old post with the same exact issue.
2025.16 Android mobile has a problem with VOBSUB subtitles. When enabled, the video does not play and “Error Occurred, Unexpected runtime error” is displayed.
Plex is aware of the problem. It will be fixed in a future release.
