Subtitles are not being displayed on Android 2025.16.0.
I have a pixel 8 pro and it doesn’t work on them. I guess they were working on 2025.14.0
Which format(s)?
I’ve a Pixel 6a with 2025.17.0 (beta).
PGS and external SRT display correctly.
There is a bug with VOBSUB subtitles (also in 2025.16). Playback fails with an “unexpected runtime error” message. Plex knows of the problem and is working on a fix. A workaround is to disable direct play & direct stream in the app settings. This forces Plex to transcode the video & burn the subtitles.
@FordGuy61 All subtitles. 2025.17 is not yet released on the play store for me. I have 2025.16 download from the play store.
If you have developer build and then expect a common user to have it, then how is it possible?
Share the apk here or please don’t say something trivial like “2025.57 works”
The Android beta for the Plex app is open for anyone to join:
@pshanew I have already joined it which is why I have received only until 2025.16 and not 17
I checked just before typing this too..
Weird. Version 2025.17.0 is the current beta and has been out nearly a week now; I’ve been running it since it was released.
You should receive the next beta, 2025.18, when it is released.
When I signed up for betas my phone did not immediately download the beta. I tried uninstall/re-install and that did not work either. It updated automatically when the next beta was released (roughly once/week based on recent releases).
I do not know if the beta will fix your problem.
It seems not all Pixels behave the same. There are posts regarding audio problems, but only for certain models. The same may happen with subtitles (the VOBSUB problem I mentioned is different, affecting all Android mobile devices).
When you get a chance, restart the phone, play something with subtitles enabled, then post the Plex android log files to the thread. That will help the devs figure out what is happening.
As a workaround, try setting Burn Subtitles = Always if your server can handle the load. That might get the subtitles to appear onscreen.
