Plex says no remote access, but remote access IS working - what's going on?

Server Version#: 1.17.0.1841

I had a Plex server running on my PC for a while, but recently started one up on a Synology DS1019+. I used the native Synology app. I have Plex pass. I ensured that port forwarding was set up properly (I have 2 routers, and made sure the port was forwarded past both of them. Same setup that was working perfectly for my PC.).

For whatever reason, my Plex app started stating that the server can’t be accessed remotely. But the weird thing is – I can access it remotely. I tested it on my iPhone. My wife tested it on her laptop in another state for a conference. I’ve verified that the port is open. It’s just the weirdest thing.

No harm, no foul, I suppose, but I’d love to have an idea of what’s causing this!!

It’s a known hiccup of the web app. Occasionally it runs into some kind of timeout which results in the remote access indicator showing a false negative…

I have the exact same problem. Everything works fine BUT my PMS shows up as duplicated and both has “no remote access”.

The funny thing is, if I connect with “http://“ and not “https://“ everything is perfect - I have remote access and just one instance of my PMS showing instead of duplicates.

This means you’re using Plex Relay - for some reason, when you’re accessing your server indirectly through Relay, PMS will claim it’s not accessible when in fact it is.

Any update on this? I’m getting the same thing but I THINK everything is working for local and remote. I just don’t know if there’s a quality problem for people using remote.

@ryan810cows , what happens if you effectively click on the Remote Access section ? It stays red ? I’ve seen it quickly change to Green/OK once you effectively go on it.

Mine of always consistent Green/OK WHEN I GO ON IT!. I do have a DNS-records pointing to the public-IP of my entrypoint.
Under “Network” , “Custom server access URL’s” I also effectively filled in that URL that is to be published to plex.tv.
Something like “plex.mydomain.com:32400” is in that box. Dunno if it was really needed but I puched it in.
I do not have IPv6 enabled in the tickbox and I have “Preferred Secure Connections”

A green check mark means Plex.tv has the IP address information and was successfully able to ping your server. if a player has already connected to your server in the past then it doesn’t need plex.tv to tell how to find your server as it will have the IP cached.

As mentioned above in this topic it sometimes showing red is often just because the interface itself in browser is not updating. if you go to the actual remote access page it will force it to update

When i go to the section it’s still no good according to that page but it still is working remotely.
If i click “retry” it goes GREEN for about 2 seconds and then goes to RED.

Are you saying to put my IP address to my Plex in like this un the “Custom server access URL’s”?

10.70.10.10:32400

I do not have IPV6 enabled either.

WELL… turns out is has to do with pfBlocker!
I thought i had turned this off once to see if that was it.
Guess i didn’t REALLY stop the service!

NOW… i need to find out WHAT is blocking it inside pfBlocker!
THANKS GUYS!!

No, the “Custom Server Access Url” in my case contains my DNS-name mapped to the PUBLIC IP of my setup.
In theory don’t think you actually need to populate this field, but I’ve done it nevertheless.
I’ve put something like : plex.mydomainname.com:32400
