So you have to dig up some 3 years old unsupported interface to import a playlist? WHAT THE #@!#$? ?
I actually tried that and got to the web tools, but it just throws an error on every playlist I try to import.
I’m on a one month trial for Plex, but it ain’t looking good! Stuck at something as simple as importing playlists with my music. MEGA WEIRD!
…and from the WEB Tools help page:
Note: You may only import playlist files that have been downloaded/saved using WebTools. You may NOT import playlist files from other third party sources.
So import is not an import at all. It only supports its own files.
MEGA UBER WEIRD!!
Unless I can find a way to import my M3Us, I’m done with Plex.
I hear you, I’ve never used it to import a playlist, only to copy personal playlists to other home users and to export playlists I’ve made in Plex to JellyFin since they use the same directories.
Not trying to sound like an ass, but if the playlists are really that important, why would recreating them in Plex be a bad thing? All of my playlists were created in my Zune Desktop app and players.
I understand you’ve already done the work once, why should you have to do it again, but if it’s that important?
Media consumption keeps changing (at least as a 40something music collector) I’ve had to continue moving with the times and finding what works for me. Hell my first music player was a device called a Neuros and it only got more complicated and application specific from there. The only thing I can say that Plex has going for it is once you’ve done the work in Plex, then you can say you truly control your music (and can move those playlists anywhere without having to change your folder structure) going forward.
That’s just my opinion. But I truly love Plex for managing my Music library (14000 songs and always growing) so I don’t have to Subscribe, Listen to Ads, Have Multiple Apps or Listen to someone else’s ideas of what I may like that some algorithm cooked up.
I use Roon for music in my house. But, Roon doesn’t do mobile, so I need a mobile solution.
Since I use Plex for movies in my house, I thought I’d try Plex for mobile audio because Plexamp seems to have a beautiful “Roonesque” look to it.
Oh. My. God.
Barrier #1: As I mentioned above, you can’t import playlists. Okay, fine. I’m willing to make the time investment to try a new platform.
Barrier #2: Plexamp doesn’t allow mass file downloads. So, I spent the last several days copying my 300+GB FLAC collection to my phone’s SD card one album at a time.
Barrier #3: Now that all the music is there, Plexamp is just unusable. Every time you load the app, it freezes on a black screen for at least 1-2 minutes before showing the interface, and continues to be very unresponsive for several minutes after that. As far as I can tell, it is verifying those downloaded files EVERY TIME it loads.
I’m about ready to blow it away and go back to Media Monkey for now.
This is not an old phone either, it’s a Sony Xperia i II with a Wifi 6 connection to the Plex server.
Am I missing something here? Please tell me I’m doing something wrong.
I definitely can see this as a huge issue. Can I ask why are you downloading the files to the phone? Plex is for “streaming” your media to your device from anywhere without having to bring your media with you. If your going to carry all the files with you, there are countless media player apps you can use. Is it a bandwidth thing? or a “not going to be able to reach a network” thing? Because I wouldn’t suggest PlexAmp for anyone trying to use it for on device playing. There are so many less convoluted apps available.
I’ve only heard of Roon (youtube videos) never used it personally but hear great things about it. Especially for Audiophiles.
But for Plex (and it’s related apps) I commute about 14-16 hours a week and it works great for keeping my on device memory freed-up by not having to carry my music and Podcasts downloaded all the time, and I only need one app to play it all.
I can see the appeal of streaming from your home server at appropriate times, but I honestly don’t know why anyone would do it all the time when a 512GB SDD card is $70. Where I live, you can frequently leave wireless service or be roaming, so it’s really not an option.
I tried media monkey and it completely destroyed the Plexamp/Plex solution I was trying. Everything downloaded quickly with no circus show, even playlists, and it just worked!
