Once you get a replacement or fix to give you functioning 3 tuners on this unit, I would suggest using one of these 2 DVRs solely for plex and have the other for your other use.
I will raise with development the point of error recovery and what options are there to explore - I would not expect that to be high priority item.
One for Plex as a test? I routinely record more than 3 shows at a time which is why I have the two devices. Dedicating one device is not a long-term viable solution.
I got a new cablecard and I am still unable to tune 3 simultaneous streams. I have ordered another HD HomeRun Prime. In the meantime, I have removed the faulty device from Plex entirely to see how well Plex functions.
@gadgetgeek2000
LOL
On my HDHR Prime 3 recordings were in progress simultaneously.
In the program guide all looked like all is well.
When all 3 recordings finished,
One file was moved out of .grab with 0 bytes in size and the program guide showed it as Aborted Recording (No Reason given), a second one only showed it was 17 min long for a 30 min recording and it was stuck in the .grab file.
No matter what anyone says… DVR is NOT ready for prime time. Also, since DVR has been added to the mainstream release, the general reliability and performance of PMS has taken a big hit as well. I know someone will respond to this as if I shot their dog.
But it is what it is…
LOL.
The thing also does not allow for channel mappings above channel 1999. This causes me to be unable to use around 200 of my channels… I have posted that issue and NO Plex interest in it at all.

On a linux host OTA is working well for me, so maybe it’s related to the prime’s, or windows and primes… seems the 503 errors are bugs with the primes. Search your log for those.
You also mentioned you were working with silicondust in another thread. What came of that?

Not even a Hi get lost response.
Do you have a paid support contract? Do they even offer that? but LOL amirite…
No support from Silicondust. My warranty expired so I’m going to purchase another unit. I had a bad tuner but believe Plex should have handled it more gracefully.
Beta. Early release. I understand. I wish they had jumped on making this a feature of Plex years ago when Microsoft announced they pulled Windows Media Center. I was left stranded without a viable recording solution for quite some time. After Plex announced the feature, I jumped on it.
I know it is beta. There are plenty of features I’d love to see added that will make the product better.

The best help i had to get to the 503 issues was the screenshots that were posted with explorer showing file names / folder names and last modified date/time and file sizes. You can help me by providing that so that i also know what you are referring to. There is tons of information in logs and even with pointers it is still hard work to get to the bottom of problems - so help me to help you.
I will look at the logs sometime over the next few days - unless someone else jumps in
10 shows recorded today. Nothing stuck in the .grab folder. Looking good at 1 HD Homerun device (172.16.10.26, which can successfully tune three simultaneous streams). I haven’t yet reconfigured the Channels app to use the .25 device only. Will look into that next.
I do not know if these are related.
Since I have a little more time to focus on this issue, as I have been having similar ones and I happened to be as my machine when the error occurred, I also was able to get a log file…

I / we truly appreciate you taking your time to help with these and other issues.
Anything you would like me to do to help testing and identifying the problem… Just let me know
if you had zero size files for recording and no error 503 then please let me have the explorer view showing file names, folder name, size, date / time modified and the logs that cover the time when the recording was done and failed.
I still have other problems i am looking into - just hoping by the time I come to look at your evidence I would have what I need to start on them
Would love a clue / a pointer - at least what show / episode / time. To find an issue in thousands or hundreds of thousands of log entries would take a lot longer than if there are some clues given and not just here are the logs and i had a problem’
Just to clarify - I was not after any browser screens. Just wanted directory listing showing the filenames / folders/ last date time modified where you have zero length files. If it is windows, it would windows explorer
Since removing the defective HD Homerun Prime device from Plex, Plex has locked up hard twice. I had to kill the EXE / reboot the computer to get it to restart.
I have a recording stuck in my .grab folder right now.
A day’s-worth of recordings were missed today. I restarted the server before 6. I have my schedules set to record 2 min ahead, and 2 min behind. That can cause some tuner overlap and will have problems recording a show if there are no tuners available. In this case, it should have kicked off the record just fine, because there was only 1 show being recorded at 4:58-6:02. At 5:58 it should have kicked off 2 recordings – Star Trek Voyager S05E09 Thirty Days, and Parenthood S01E03 The Deep End Of the Pool. That would be 3 tuners in use as it was wrapping up the previous recording. Voyager recorded fine. Parenthood gave me a 0-byte file stuck in the .grab.

Question for @jjrjr1 Do you have your PVR to pad the beginning/end of your recordings?
Logs attached.
Temperamental HD Homerun DVR. A 503 error as well. It was returned within 60 ms of the request being made - so immediately.
There were two recordings in progress so one tuner was free at the time. But it failed 503 error. After this Plex Media Server did manage to fire 3 concurrent recordings.
Failed 503

Errors:
If the virtual channel number is not known the tuner will return “404 Not Found”.
If the request cannot be completed at this time (for example all tuners are in use) the tuner will return “503 Service Unavailable”.
If the program cannot be not found in the stream within 5 seconds or the program cannot be authorized within 5 seconds the tuner will return “503 Service Unavailable”.
If the program requires content-protection not requested by the client the tuner will return “503 Service Unavailable” after 5 seconds. This error code may change in the future to return a more relevant error code
