Plex Series Agent and Plex TV Series Scanner Fail to Fetch Metadata for Valid Episode (Maine Cabin M

Environment:

  • Plex Media Server version: 1.41.8.9834
  • OS: Windows Server 2016
  • Library type: TV Shows
  • Agent: Modern (TV Shows - Plex Series)

Issue Summary:
The modern TV agent (Plex Series) is failing to fetch metadata for an existing episode in my library: Maine Cabin Masters - S11E04 - Additions for the Generations!. The file is correctly named and placed, and the episode exists on both TMDb and TVDB.

Steps Taken:

  1. Confirmed TMDb lists the episode: [Maine Cabin Masters: Season 11 (2025) — The Movie Database (TMDB)]
  2. Verified filename and folder structure:
    Maine Cabin Masters/Season 11/Maine Cabin Masters - S11E04 - Additions for the Generations!.mkv
  3. Removed the entire show from the library, emptied trash, cleaned bundles, restarted Plex, and re-added it.
  4. Metadata for all other episodes populates normally—except S11E04.
  5. Plex Series agent logs show no fetch attempt for the episode.
  6. Switching the library to the legacy TVDB agent resolves the issue. The metadata is maintained when then upgrading the library to use the modern agent but the issue eventually reoccurs with other tv shows. The shows and episodes impacted appear random.

Logs:
I know that the instructions are not to enable verbose logging but with only debug logging enabled I verified that there is no log entry for this episode file at all.

With verbose logging enabled this is the only log entry for the episode file,

There is no corresponding fetch in Scanner Analysis.log and no other references in any other log files.

Although not desired I have attached the full verbose logging files so my analysis can be verified.

Expected Behavior:
The TMDb agent should fetch and apply metadata for the episode, as it exists in the database and matches expected naming.

Request:
Please advise whether this is a known issue with the agent or episode mapping, and if a fix is pending.

It looks like that episode was added to TMDB yesterday, and it can take a couple days or Plex to pull in new data from TMDB/TVDB.

That episode was just added to TMDB yesterday and TVDB today. It takes about 48 hours after those sites get the data for us to ingest it. Most shows get their episodes added to sites long before they actually air
