Plex Series Agent - Cast vs Musical Guests

The Plex Series agent is grabbing the episode cast information from thetvdb(?) but is excluding musical guests – which are on thetvdb episode listings.

A recent Example is The Graham Norton Show, S32E13

Or more recently: Elton John, Brandi Carlille are not listed in S32e17 along with the Director (which I’m now noticing) is also missing from the episode details on PMS.

I have TheTVdb (aired) ordering selected, but is there a way to force retrieving the series data from thetvdb too?

Try changing the episode ordering (for just this series) to TMDB. I can reproduce the behavior you’re seeing, but only with the ordering set to TheTVDB. I wonder if there’s something going on on the Plex metadata backend causing this…

Augh! and this changed all my manually selected/downloaded artwork along with it!

This did add the musical guests as you suggested it would, but since I contribute to thetvdb, I’d actually like to benefit from my, and many others, who contribute to the site…

Now, I don;t think I’m going to be able to go back a couple of decades and replace the artwork - again - but I will do it for at least this season…

What a pain: The option says episode ordering, not replacing your existing data from the newly selected source…
Also, aren’t manually selected posters and backgrounds supposed to be locked?!

I’d check off, “Solution” but I can’t because while this season seems to match, the ordering - for example - for the New Year’s Specials are different between the TMDB and TheTVdb - all but one “special” is now blank with no descriptions, casts, etc in Plex.

Augh indeed. Sorry about that. If you really want it back, you could restore a recent database backup and probably lose very little.

But agreed, there definitely seems to be something weird going on. I didn’t think the episode ordering was supposed to affect the metadata (to the extent that the episodes actually matched).

Well, I would at least loose the artwork, since that isn’t stored in the database - and that’s really what I lost with this switch of “episode ordering.”

I do have a recent backup of my Plex data folder, but it’s 3.2TB and I don’t think shutting down my Plex Server for a full day is a solution I’m up to doing.

Thanks, I know this wasn’t intentional…

I am going to switch back to TheTVdb ordering, just because it’s exhausting to go through and verify, re-match, change the filenames, erase and re-write the video metadata, etc.

Since Plex does actually use TheTVdb in their menus, episode ordering and scraping, I hope that someone will look into this issue and resolve it.

The function of pulling “musical guests” is in the API Plex currently uses – because the TMDB lists these “guests” as “musical guests” just like TheTVdb.

This also applies to Awards Shows; for example: The Brit Awards Who’s cast is mostly Musical Guests. :disappointed:

Hmm. I wonder if @drzoidberg33 could provide some insight.
