EDIT: It seems the issue is that TMDB is the primary metadata source, and if I want to use TVDB for that show, the links need to exist on TMDB to the corresponding TVDB episodes (thanks @dokuro ). That explains why sources were mixed within a season even when both had valid entries, they were just missing the link. I was mistakenly under the impression it would choose a source at a show level. FTR this issue can be closed, but I do not have the permissions.
Original post:
“The Last Drive in With Joe Bob Briggs” TV show has very different season structures when comparing between TVDB and TMDB. For years this show’s metadata has been perfect. Upon adding a new episode and telling it to refresh the show’s metadata, it is suddenly matching episodes from the wrong season, because their names are different in TVDB and TMDB. I have always used TheTVDB season and episode listings as the source of truth and this has always worked in the past. The fact that I have the show ID, name, seasons, and episode numbers exactly matching TheTVDB should mean the multi-source-metadata agent should be able to figure out which source to use, but even if it can’t, it should not be pulling in information from TheTVDB for ep 1-11, and then using TMDB for ep 12 within the same season.
Definitely a bug, and not a naming convention or configuration issue. If the plex series agent needs to pull from multiple data sources that’s fine, but mixing them from episode to episode, or even season to season, seems like it will inevitably cause confusion and inconsistencies.
This is much more complicated.
The record for s01e12 on TMDB contains direct links to both s01e12 on IMDb, as well as s04e12 on TMDB.
The episode titles on TMDB and IMDb are matching each other, but are different from s01e12 on TVDB.
Which “Episode Ordering” has been selected for this show?
If it’s set to “Library default”, which has been set for the library?
Pretty much all the external ids for each episode linking tmdb → tvdb where missing. I have gone and added them which should help for episode ordering within plex. Give it 3-5 days for the update to make it to plex.
There are no specials on tmdb, so not sure what do with them. Maybe they are listed elsewhere on tmdb, I’ll look into it later as I’m heading out now.
EDIT: Nevermind, found them… they are listed separately on tmdb. I’ll link them up …
Your welcome. However this may not fully fix this problem. Sometimes shows are so different between tmdb & tvdb alongside the way plex has designed their new modern agent they just become unsupported by plex. The Monster anthology series and Transformers: War for Cybertron listing at tmdb being two examples just don’t work and will likely never work.
This show may or may not fall into that bucket but lets see after these external id changes creep their way into plex.
