Plex server crashes after an hour

Hi folks.

I’m running the latest stable version of Sequioa on a Mac Mini M4, and since installing it my Plex server crashes at around an hour after re-starting it. I’ve tried port forwarding to 32400, which appears to work for a while, I’ve re-installed Plex, but still it persists. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Any solutions found?

Port forwarding is used only for remote access. Unless something is very wrong, it will not affect server stability.

Ensure the server is configured for debug, not verbose, logging.
Settings → server_name → General + Show Advanced

After the next crash:

  1. Restart Plex Media Server
  2. Wait two - three minutes for Plex to log the startup sequence
  3. Pull the server logs (settings → troubleshooting)
  4. Post the entire zip file to the thread (drag it into the message window and wait for it to upload).

Someone familiar with running PMS on a Mac can then look that the log files and assist.

Thanks I’ll try that

If you’re running Plex in a containerized setup make sure you allocate enough RAM for the server and if you mount a tmpfs for transcode, allocate enough for that aswell. In the latter case, make sure to not increase your transcode buffer time too much, else your tmpfs will fill up very quickly and it will kill the entire Plex instance if that happens.

It looks like it was a Mac OS issue. My Mac Mini was going to sleep despite it being set not too in settings. I used the Caffeinate command in terminal and it looks like it’s working ok now. It’s been running for 24 hours so far.

Thanks for everyone’s help. As a newbie, I’ve learned a lot!
