Hi - I am not sure why my plex keeps crashing. I’ve had plex for years and this started to happen in the last month. I’ve now restored my mac so it was a clean slate. It still crashed so I fully deleted the plex server and then remapped my drives. Its still causing me issues. I go to the crash report folder and its empty. But the logs say that it was processed? Hoping someone can help me.
So it was a fresh install of server or you restored a time machine back up?
This was a fresh reinstall of the system. Wiped out all old applications. Only have Chrome, VLC, Transmission, Plex, TeamViewer installed (outside of the regular mac apps)
In the server logs before the crash can you tell what it was doing?
I had two remote users streaming. I dont know how to read the server logs
And the crash logs just state the time of the crash and that they were processed and then the folder they were in. Which I went to and those folders are empty? I showed all hidden files and it was still empty
I’m going to need to ask someone who has access if they uploaded properly. it is late here and I might not find out til tomorrow.
can you message me the line in the logs that show it uploading. ( click on my username to message)
Can you check in here
/var/folders/6f/x0zr9gk567l2q_29dl8ppfq80000gn/T/
You will need to use the Go menu in Finder and choose Go To Folder
I don’t see anything related to plex under the T folder. But under C theres the com.plexapp.plexmediaserver and then a subfolder named com.apple.metalfe…but that folder is empty
there should be .dmp
files. The system itself may delete them periodically.
Yeah it’s empty
ok then that path was gotten from the log bit you messaged me. Next time it crashes look in the same place (another lettered folder might be made) and the regular crash logs folder. before starting the server up again. and if you could message me the entire set of server logs maybe I can figure out what might have been happening besides the streaming
So it crashed again. around the same time yesterday. I went to the T folder and there is nothing to do with plex in that folder. I went to the C folder and it has a plex server folder but it was empty, too. I did not restart plex after it crashed and there’s no record of the crash other than the crash log saying it was filed. Do you know what I can do to fix this?
My Mac server is also crashing lately. Also running on a MacMini, but it seems to only crash when playback finishes.
Also have the same issue for MacMini. Was rock solid until recent software update. Now consistently crashes with playback error for every file and need to restart server every time. Tried all manner of config with no success
I have a Plex Media Server development build to offer to Mac OS users that have been getting server crashes when the transcoder crashes out - this will not stop the transcoder crash but address the server crash issue
I will make this build available to Mac users who have passed me evidence of the server crashes - anyone else affected and willing to try, do let me know
Hi, having the same issue. PMS was running without problems for months. Latest version started giving transcoder and server crashes. Transcoder crashes not always resulted in server crash. Went back to June release of PMS and it got rid of the transcoder-only crash, but the server crashes continue. Can I have access to your development build? will be happy to try it.
