Hey! Long time Plex user (back to around 2011) but first time poster here - never had enduring issues before like this that I couldn’t fix myself.
What I’ve found is that playing specific media causes the Plex Server to crash entirely - the web app stops loading data, and the server becomes unavailable. I run Plex as a service on my server machine, but when it crashes even just trying to run the server directly in the tray doesn’t bring it back - I have to do a full system reboot. I could see in the logs that at the time of the crash it submitted a crash dump to Plex, but I didn’t know what else to look for.
I’ve tried newer media that I’ve just added to the NAS, and that seems to play fine. Some older media is playing fine too. I’ve tried all the things around the UI:
- Analyze for both libraries
- Optimize Database
- Clean Bundles
- Empty Trash
- Rescan entire library
My guess here is that something in the encoding of those files is throwing it off, but nothing has changed on that box except Plex updates, so I’m not sure what’s happened. Any help appreciated.
