@barcaxavi Thanks for reporting the problem and for sharing those logs. They suggest that the following happened:
SHIELD PMS boots at 21:15:52 and seems to be running without issues (at least I see it responding to requests) until 22:55.
At 22:55:19 something happens that causes the SHIELD PMS to shutdown.
Is that what you observed when you tested this (i.e., did the server only become offline after a while), or was your server offline right after booting the SHIELD? In either case what do you think happened at 22:55:19 that triggered a shutdown?
Sorry I don’t have anything more specific to offer at the moment, but we run the latest version of SHIELD PMS ourselves and haven’t experienced issues with any recent updates, so we’re still trying to figure out what might be going on.
First of all, thanks for getting back on this problem.

The app update happened before that I think. This must be the time the Shield turned on (from sleep), or the time I started the Plex app.

Thanks for that. As you can read above, I did a full factory reset on the Shield after the first incident, and I only updated PMS after that, and it started happening again. As of this, I don’t think it’s a conflict with another (non-system) app, nor it’s about storage ( I have a 16 GB Shield). SMB connection seemed nornal, and I am always on ethernet connection.
Nothing like this happened before, so I think you should look into the changes of the last update. Of course I’m no expert, logic gets me to this point.

how do i get a hold of the older version?
I did a full factory reset, and only updated the Plex for Android app after that. Left the PMS app untouched and turned off the automatic update of the apps.
But maybe resetting app updates and clearing data works the same way.

thanks I’ll try that till they resolve this. Guess I’m rebuilding my database a 4th time.
Ok I did as @barcaxavi said and it seems to be working now. Another thing to note is that with the older version of PMS, the plex client seems to be loading libraries faster, and finding images for home movies that the new version couldn’t. I’m just not going to update PMS untill they have this issue sorted out.
Step by step for those having problems.
Disable automatic updates
Force Stop PMS and Plex
Uninstall updates PMS and Plex
Update Plex Client only
Spent last night setting up my libraries again, and the server stayed active all through to this morning.
So I’ve just updated to 5.01 and PMS seems to be working again! Database is intact so I’ll go on and see if it stays alive for a few days or falls over again.
Cool so that means in 5.02 plex is currently working with the backdated PMS app. A couple people in the Nvidia forum have reported getting the dead android error on update. Nvidia employees suggested disabling the PMS and apparently that removed the dead android. Seems there’s more wrong with the current PMS update than what were seeing with our disappearing servers.

Well… For the first time, I just waited for the videos to load, now that I actually wanted to see something, the picture quality was really bad on most of the videos:
Since this is obviously not OK, I updated the PMS app, and everything’s fine again.
So I use the latest Plex for Android and PMS and everything is going fine :fingerscrossed:
Wow, that is a horrible image. Almost looks like the quality setting get set to the lowest value. If you happen to see it with the new PMS, I’ve love to see a PMS and Android app log at the time.
I also got my Shield 2017 2 days back and having the same issue. Plex server goes offline in few hours. The IP of Shield is static and i tried to telnet it on port 32400 to see if its listening. Yes, it was listening but In the list of servers, it says Shield Server offline.
Has anyone found any fix for this?
When you say update the Plex Server, how you do that? Sorry, this is my first android device. I actually searched in Playstore and did not find PMS but just Plex Client which was up to date.
Also, when you say how to delete the updates, how you do that?
Check the app store through the Shield itself. You can uninstall updates the same way. Note that uninstalling the update for PMS will reset your PMS configuration back to a fresh install. i.e., your PMS is basically erased and you have to start over.
The Shield will sleep after some time of not being used. If you just look at the Server list, it may show as offline, but selecting it will wake it back up and you should see the content after a few seconds. If your PMS is connected via WiFi, I don’t believe it will wake up. Besides, running a server through WiFi is usually not a good idea.
Fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling Plex. Guess the network didn’t like the update I did the night before. Not the first time I have had to do this after an update.
Has happened to me now.
v1.11.3.4803 kills server so it’s offline, no matter what is done.
Uninstalling updates, which has rolled PMS back to v1.4.3.3433 works great.
Anyone know the link to post it in this thread to report the bug with Plex devs?
(since this is the top search hit in google?"
