Plex server goes offline

Hi!
Just updated the Plex app on Play Store and the server completely went offline. Never happened before.
Restarted the app (both Plex and the server) plus the Shield too, but it’s the same since… Server is still offline.
I have the 2015 Shield, Plex shows me version 5.3.4.759(bc65af55) in the settings.

Anyone else noticing something like this?
I can’t sign out on the server, and haven’t tried uninstalling Plex yet.

My DVR server through the Shield died as well.

Happening to me as well currently on Apple TV 4 and Roku Ultra. Does anyone test these things?

Forgot to upload media server logs. Server is still offline unfortunately.

Same thing here. AFAIK, this is caused by the latest Plex client update :frowning:

Same thing here. Is there a resolution to this other than starting over?

There was a suggestion in another thread to clear cache and data (link), but it doesn’t seem like a solid option.
Although until there’s no official response from the Plex team, I think I will also try that.

Reverted Plex from the Play Store to default settings (as it is a system app, there’s an option for that). I think it deleted all data and started everything from the beginning like it’s the first start.
Everything went fine until I wanted to set up the server. Got stuck on one screen, can’t go further.

Also having the same issue. I’m able to get into the BBC Channel and get listings for shows but as soon as I attempt to play anything it tells me I’ve been disconnected from the server.

PMS on the Shield is flaky at best. The only way I’ve been able to get it working is to do a factory reset on the Shield and then install all updates for Plex and Plex Server. So far my install has been functioning for about two weeks. Now, I don’t use it much, but it’s up. I did have a power outage at my house last night, and when power was restored and the Shield powered on the Plex Server was down. I did a restart through the Shield TV menu and it came back up at that point.

Did not experience anything like this or any other faulty behavior since I got the Shield, for months. And I consider myself a heavy user.
Well maybe I will try a factory reset. But I’m kind of disappointed in the Plex team on how they (not) handling this case.

Just had a few minutes to troubleshoot and I am getting nowhere. Last time a bad update came out and my server went offline I just cleared data on PMS and plex apps on my shield and built a new server. This time around there is no way to rebuild a new server. Maybe the new impending OS update will remedy things.

Just bought a Shield TV 2017…loaded everything up and signed into plex and started server and it shows in the plex app on the shield but when I get on web app to setup file locations and such, it says my shield is unavailable and wont connect for anything. I have factory reset the new shield and made sure everything was up to date. Anyone have any ideas or something they have to fix on their end???

@richardwood121, you said you just bought the Shield TV. Have you verified you have the latest versions of the Plex player app and the Plex Server app? You can check by going to the Shield TV settings page, go to system apps, scroll until you find the Plex apps, then look at the version info.

Plex server app shows version 0.9.17.1.238
Plex player app is 5.3.4.759

Are those the up to date ones? The shield tv updates them automatically through google play and NVidia software updates, right? Everything shows updated

Thanks

No, that version of Plex Server is incredibly outdated. Go to the Google Play app on the Shield and check for new versions. If none show up, go to play.google.com and search for Plex Server, and force an update to your Shield.

So I did the factory reset, and watched a movie with Plex for Android and Plex Media Server app that came with box. Everything went fine.
Both app had updates in the Play Store, so I tried updating the PMS first then. Things immediately went bad again.
After another factory reset, I updated just the Plex app, and it looks like this way it works. Just be sure to select manual app updates on the Play Store.

I was able to get it back without the factory reset. I did have to start by building a new PMS. First I uninstalled updates then cleared data and cache for the Pms and Plex apps. Then I updated the app through Google play. Then I went back into system apps and uninstalled updates on PMS only. When I launched Plex it allowed me to create a new server. Created the server then updated the app and it’s been working ever since. Kind of a pain. I am running gen 1 shield pro. Hopefully this helps someone.

How long has it been working for you, because I did this 2 weeks ago and I’m already back to PMS not launching at reboot of the shield leaving me to manually enable/disabling it in app settings to get it to launch. And even then the sever itself will stop running leaving me to manually run it again from the shields plex client.

Looking in your log I see that you have both the Ethernet and WiFi enabled, but they are on different subnets. There isn’t a way to specify which connection PMS will use, so it’s possible that PMS switched from the Ethernet connection to the WiFi connection, but hasn’t updated it’s pubsub entry. This would make it look like PMS is offline. Try disabling the WiFi and see if that fixes the issue.

Edit - My mistake. The info I see turns out to be normal.
