I just installed a new computer and am trying to get Plex working and I’m not having any success. I was running Plex on a previous computer, but that computer died. Current PC is running Windows 11. I’m able to install Plex Server, but I’m not able to add or edit any of my libraries. When I try to add, I’m able to select the type of library, then name the library, but I can’t get past that. The “Next” button is greyed out. I am also unable to edit any previous libraries.
I’d like to just start over fresh, as if I’ve never had Plex before, but I can’t figure out how to do that, after searching this forum and various other things via Google. Can someone please help? Thank you!!
I did everything you said, and then I re-installed Plex Media Server and Plex for Windows. Everything seemed to be fine. But now, when I go to Home>More>Your Media, I get a message saying “Add your media to Plex” and a button to “Get Plex Media Server.” I already have Plex Media Server, correct? After downloading, I installed it. So why am I being asked again to get it?
I should add that when I click on the “Get Plex Media Server” button, I am directed to the Microsoft Store’s Plex Media Server page, where it shows that I have it already installed. Incidentally, I downloaded and installed from the Plex website, not the MS Store. I don’t know if that matters?
Did you remove the registry items mentioned in Otto‘s link on how to fully uninstall the server?
Based on the error message it seems like there’s still some remnants of an old server and Plex therefore considering it’s already associated with a different Plex account (and not letting you in with yours → that’s assuming the old server was running under a different Plex account)
Good call. I did NOT remove the registry items that Otto mentioned. My mistake. However, when I went back and went through the uninstall process all over again, this time removing the registry items in that link and rebooting, I am still getting the same result mentioned earlier: after installing Plex Media Server and then trying to add media, I get a message that I need to install PMS.
I was able to “claim the server.” Thank you for the suggestion. After reading the support article in the screen shot that I attached above, I was apparently able to finally clear everything out for a fresh install. I’m adding media folders now.
Otto and Tom, can’t thank you both enough for your quick responses. Your suggestions were very helpful.
