My Plex server has started to repeatedly crash when I am accessing locally from my Apple TV 4k (both the Plex app and Infuse) and Sony Android TV. I’m also having the same problem when accessing remotely when using the Plex Media Player.
I first noticed when trying to remotely access mkv films, but it seems Live TV recordings and just updating the library cause the crash too.
I’ve downloaded the logs, but I’m not really sure which ones to start looking through. (I’ve had a quick look and just see restarts after crashes, however I could quite easily be missing something.)
Currently, I’m on version 1.13.1.5063 running on Windows Server 2016. I’d like to try some of the previous versions to see if there was a particular update that might be causing the issue, but as it’s tricky to work out the download links, could someone supply me the links to
Please check that you have debug logging enabled on the server
See plex web : settings / server / general / show advanced and check the enable debug logging setting
Also check that crash reporting is enabled
Enable if not enabled and save changes and restart the server
On next crash, restart the server and then download the logs zip
Plex web : settings / server / help / download logs
Attach the zip file here and we can then locate the dmp file
Glad to say that I’ve found what seems to be the problem after getting a hint from this thread. (Sorry, but I missed it originally and therefore started a new thread.) https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/320283/pms-1-13-0-5023-crash and shaneosullivan’s post.
Even though I hadn’t touched the graphics driver for months, it appears that having the transcoding option ‘Use hardware acceleration when available’ enabled was causing the issue. (This option has been selected for as long as I can remember.)
Just to say that trying the latest Intel 530 drivers didn’t help.
We are expecting these Intel h264_qsv encoder crashes to have been fixed by the ffmpeg update which has been released in Plex Media Server beta 1.17.0.1709-982421575
