Plex server keeps stopping after update to Version 1.18.2.2058 on terramaster F2-220

The NAS has been working hard over the last week as it has updated the server 3 times over the last couple of weeks. The last version it did this and I had to do a complete uninstall and after rebuilding for many hours it appeared to be working fine. Now this update and somewhat same issue and had to rebuild some libraries, but server will not stay running long enough to even complete the rebuild. Have not had any issues like this until the last couple of updates. I have attached the logs (I think, never done this before), as this is getting very frustrating as my server pretty much stays down now. If I don’t have any resolution soon I will try a uninstall and re-install. Anyone else have issues like this?

Well just had to uninstall, restart nas, re-install and rebuild libraries. Seems to be stable at the moment.

I’ve been having the same issue. Recently every time I go to use Plex, it is not running. I’m also on version 1.18.2.2058.

If I log onto the NAS and click on the Plex icon on the desktop it says “Configuring - Please wait” every time as if Plex was starting up. This is new behaviour

My TOS version is 4.1.11-2932

Hi everybody, same issue for my F2-220 and Firmware version 4.1.11.
I wrote an email to Terramaster support.

This is my question, and the answer of the Terramaster support team.

Hi,

Since I updated my F2-220 to version 4.1.11, the plex service remains stopped when the system restarts, and it is necessary to manually start it.

The latest updates of TNAS are getting worse.

Can I do a “roll back” without losing data?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for contacting TerraMaster.

As for the issue you mentioned, actually Plex has released many new versions recently for same kind of bugs reported from users.

I am not sure whether it’s the reason of Plex or our TOS system about your issue, please uncheck “Automatically update app” at Settings - TOS Application center first.

And then check Plex at Application center, and click Start to see whether it could be started.

And if you want to reinstall your TOS system to former version, please advise which version you were running before update, and you should download the installation package first and follow the steps below:

1. power off your device and pull out all the hard drives

2. power it on and run TNAS PC

3. check your device and click Login

4. insert all your hard drives back and click retry

5. select “install a new TOS system” ( please be noted that this will not delete your data from your hard drives) and Manually download and install TOS system.

6. follow the instructions to complete

It will jump to TOS login page after setting the admin’s password, in case it does not enter TOS login page but the following page, please stop immediately and get back to us otherwise your data will be erased.

I have not dared to install from the beginning. I do not trust the answer they have given me and I am afraid of data loss.

I am always activating the PLEX service manually, while I await a new update from both TOS and PLEX server.

I hope this answer can help someone

Well Plex has been stable the last couple of days, but I had TOS 4.1.09. Now one thing that I did do (after removing all libraries) was I logged out of that plex server and logged back on and then right after that I rebooted the F2-220 and it has been stable ever since after adding libraries back. Now when I looked at the logs the stoppage all happened around same time as a comm warning in the plex server log. That is why I logged out of plex and back on and rebooting the NAS was just something I do as with most things a simple hard boot can fix some bug issues (just past experience). The only issue I see was in Plex as my thumbnails in my movie section is all screwed up or non-existent (haven’t had time to go in a find out why). I have the same settings on the plex server running same revision on my desktop and those thumbs are right (something to do later today). I did decide to update the TOS to 4.1.11 a little while ago (probably not a bright idea, but I wanted to prove to myself it is a plex issue not a terramaster issue (was thinking about not renewing my plex pass and moving to emby because of google integration). Well it has been almost a half hour and plex still running and no issues. Figured it was a plex issue as I had had TOS 4.1.09 running plex great until the last 2 plex updates. Will update a little later on how it is going.

Also I forgot to mention that I started plex server from the installed applications screen.

Well still stable, but did find out the my music library did not and will not rebuild. My music library on my desktop server appears to be alright and just upgraded it to plex music and still fine, but on the F2-220 It will not even generate a new library and has same file structure as my desktop. It will not find not one single file, has anyone else had this issue?

Hi,

I have the same issue. I restart Plex on the NAS. Plex is running during a few minutes and next shut down. I need to restart it again.

Plex Server is: version 1.18.2.2058.
My TOS version is 4.1.11-2932

I also remarked the message “Configuring -Please wait” every time as if Plex was starting up.

Did you solve this issue since 6d?

Best regards,

I removed my libraries and had it reconstruct them, then hard booted the F2-220. Then after it finished it has been stable so far. It looks to be a plex issue not a terramaster issue as it was doing this with tos 3.xxx version also. I upgraded to tos 4.1.11 after that and is was still stable. The only issue I had is it will not rebuild my music library, which says the new version of plex still has bugs in linux. I would not be surprised if that did not have something to do with it stopping as it appeared it was always trying to rebuild that library when it stopped. Not sure why as running same plex revision with exact same file structure on windows 10 pc and it built the music library fine.

Also, logged out of plex account on server and logged back on. Not sure which one made it stable. I would try and logout and back in first to see before rebuilding libraries.

the same happens to me. I’m watching 10-15 min a movie and the plex media server app stops. I have to go to TNAS and manually start it again. and after 15 minutes he stops again. what is the problem?

My NAS has now got a TOS upgrade available that I will install but the “Applications” application has also changed to saying that a plex upgrade is available but the upgrade is to version 1.16.5.1564. That would be a downgrade from 1.18.2.2058 which is currently installed.

I have the same problem now. I reinstalled Plex several times, but the PMS just doesn’t start anymore. I can’t start the server manually either, it just sees “being configured” and nothing happens. After I have created a new music library, the server has ended and just does not want to start anymore. Reinstalling Plex didn’t help either. I now want to avoid resetting the NAS to factory settings, what can I do?

thought it was just me. I have uninstalled plex multiple times and re-installed with no success 10 mins the it goes off again, mostly dies after just a few minutes and also prompting for insecure network across home network. Worked brilliantly until 1.18.2.2058. Despite using the version 1.18.2.2058 TOS still says update possible after which it’s still the same version. Running F2-240 and latest TOS.

I have the same problem. I also updated to version 1.18.3.2156, the plex works on wd my cloud ex4100, until now it has always gone perfectly, now it is from yesterday that the server crashes and is no longer reachable both locally and remotely, the only what to do it again is to restart the app from the nas.

I just installed the v. 1.18.4.2164, let’s see if this problem has been solved.

The update I received for TOS 6 days ago seems to have resolved the issue.

I’m running on TOS 4.1.15 and Plex version 1.18.2.2058.

I’ve not uninstalled Plex at all since the problems started, so as far as I can tell turning off automatic application updates and updating TOS has resolved the issue for me. Plex has been running for the last 6 days and I’ve not experienced any issues when using it.

I now wish I had just brought a synology NAS. Plex has now gone wrong again. I cannot keep reinstalling etc. Its driving me mad.

Has anyone resolved this issue yet.
Click start and it configures then stops

hi, to keep this thread open, i’d like to add my penny’s-worth. I have the same problem as all of you latest tos 4* and last plex server updatemessed things up for me too. only seems to affect my android 442, 6 & playstation4 apps. android 9 fine. pc web interface has problems signing in. thumbnails gone in most cases. used to be able to downgrade android apps to make them work but this no longer fixes, so this makes me think 9i have the same prob as you guys, ie further up the chain, with either the tos or nas plex app.
i hope this gets solved… using kodi as standby
