One of the great things about Plex was the ability to give friends and family access to the Server library, with the UK going full fibre and now Smart Hubs this is now becoming a function which is in jeopardy due to the lack of fixed IPv4 - Ip address. As I have found out after nearly 7 years of happy Plex server use. With no fixed IP address there is no server remote access - Your server is signed in to Plex but is not reachable from outside your network.
Does the PLEX organization have a solution for this predicament - please
Yes, two-fold. You can enable Plex Relay. It’s free for everyone.
Also, if your ISP is dual-stack (both IPv4 and IPv6) you can now use IPv6 with the latest versions of the server and clients.
Thanks very much for the reply and info - Unfortunately that doesn’t solve the problem. Plex>settings>network has Client Network IPv4 and IPv6 enabled by default also Enable Relay, everything has been working fine for 7 years, until I upgraded my UK broadband. Enable relay is limited to 1Mbps or 2Mbps and has limitations - see internet. IPv6 has to be supported by the HUB and still requires a fixed IP address of 6 separate numbers, if the hub supports IPv6. My BT research man tells me the problem is that many years ago IPv4 had plenty of IP addresses not so now. These are now paid for or allocated to businesses. Plex needs a stable fixed IP address which can only be allocated by the Broadband provider. So that’s my next point of contact, but I don’t hold out much hope. I can always try NO-IP Dynamic Update Client for windows as a last resort. Thanks again
